hey guys,i have two les paul both set necks and i heard about this whole neck warp or wrap thingy and that this happens to set necks. Is it true?how do i prevent this and if it does happen( touch wood!!) can it be repaired?
warping happens to all types of necks, not just set makes (acoustic/ classical guitars as well). this is when the neck curves into a convex/ concave profile due to string tension differences/ reaction to temperature changes.
mild warping can be cured by tweaking the truss rod @ the headstock; that's why it's there in the first place. if you don't know how to do it, just send it to a tech.
its a common problem that can be dealt with by either tightening or loosening the truss rod of the guitar. if you have 0 experience with that, I suggest sending to a reliable tech. I've made a costly mistake once with my acoustic
Even weather effects the neck warpage.
Even the way u store ur guitar makes a difference as well.
So always store ur guitar properly!
my guitars are always kept on a stand and my room is well ventilated.
Thus far, ive not experienced any neck warpage. ive both, set neck and bolt on one! ... No prb!
I have heard of examples where the neck warp is sideways. (i.e: warping not on the length but at the width of the fretboard). Is it true? Can it be repaired?
that is not a very common. if you are not facing it, why even bother thinking about it? but if u are facing such a problem, I suppose finding the right person for the job is necessary.
Kelvin of guitar connection can heat the neck back in shape. maybe you could give him ring to find out more with regards to the charges of doing it. chances are you have to bring the guitar down for him to check. so yeah, just head down if you want to save time talking.
Just take good care of your guitar and it won't happen, make sure to store it in a dry place away from sunlight, and if you intend to keep it in a bag, make sure to put stuffs like thirsty hippo in it to absorb moisture. =)
Sometimes, neck warp is not just caused by the moisture and all that, if you use heavy strings, it would cause your neck to warp slightly as well, nothing that can't be fixed by a little truss rod adjustment.
I gt a fender strat...unfortunately the truss rod is corroded hence there is no way for the allen wrench to get a grip as the head of the truss rod is rounded..So i cant really adjust the truss rod. Is there any solution to this problem???(long term solution so tat i cn i adjust d truss rod whenever d neck starts to wrap)
