What do you guys think about this technique?

Recently i've read about a new way to practice to build speed but more importantly, accuracy.
This technique goes something like that, take a couple of weeks, say... 2 or 3 weeks.

During this 3 weeks you will not play anything faster then you can play. In other words play at a speed you're comfortable with you can play every single note with accuracy.

By the end of the 3 weeks you would've been able to play at a much much much faster speed than what you've been playing all along for the 3 weeks.

As people always say the slower you practice the faster you get.

how true is this?

Hmm there is some truth to this method, though not entirely correct as well. I believe that if you do follow this method, you will be able to play at a faster speed than before, but not significantly so. People do say that the slower you practice, the faster you get, but that applies to memorizing the notes correctly first and playing them with accuracy.

The idea behind the technique is to polish up on accuracy before tackling higher speed, which is very true right? You wouldn't want to be jumbling up your notes at a speed you can't handle.

In theory, you have to play every note accurately at say, 80% of your max speed. Then push yourself at a higher speed and work towards accuracy. In a way you would then leapfrog your way to progress! Use a metronome to see what level your speed is and you will improve. However this is only in MY theory, though you can try it out :P

i think the most useful little exercise is the whole 4 finger chromatic warmup routing thingy - the one where you play, string by string and work your way up the fretboard. start slowly and when your fingers are warmed up repeat faster.

doing it with a metronome might help u in picking up the speed. but as some of the other folks already pointed out, accuracy is more important any day

if u put accuracy first and practise slowly, speed will come naturally, its just a matter of time...Results varies from few weeks to few months to years if you ask me......depends very much on individual..Our muscle memory takes time to remember & transmit the msg to your head...rushing will only mess it up.....so it is a logical or common sense to practise slowly....and like what Itzhak Perlman said......If you practise slowly, u will forget slowly too...
