What do these terms mean?

ask me anything abt the mixer and i shld noe... hehe... never heard of them b4... tot it was some computer game or something...

haha
attack... -.-"

for keyboardist:

Attack is how the sound of that patches reaches to the highest volume when you press your key ... It's like controlling a crescendo in a way ... It is also part of Attack Decay Sustain Release Envelope which control the sound produced by the synth (Audio ppl must know this as well).

Release is how long the sounds fades after you press your key ... dont be mistaken this as sustain ...

Threshold is dynamic range ... i think ...if you refer to these area

Ratio ... dont know ... too general i think

Time to exercise my fingers.

Attack: How fast compression reacts and starts to kick in.

Threshold: The level you set to react, so the compression will start at this point you have set.

Release: How much substain you want when the compression reacts.

Soft/Hard Knee: How you want the compressor to lower the levels. In a subtle way or a forceful way.

Ratio: How much compression you want, 1:1 up to infinity. The higher the ratio, the more your output will be reduced. If the ratio is set at 2:1, that means that for every 2db change of signal level above the threshold from the source input, the compressor will only output a 1db change.

Output Level: To compensate for any loss of levels during compression.

It's actually a lot easier to understand compressors with a graphical interface in front of you. The release is for the time taken for the compressor to stop compressing after the threshold has been reached. The soft/hard knee option is the characteristic of the slope at the turning point of the input vs output gain graph. The harder the knee, the more abrupt the transition.
