What do effects run on?

Hi, so I'm new to this thing. Is anyone willing to teach me all about effects? I read stuff about batteries, A/C box etc.

Does single effects run on batteries(or any external stuff I should buy) or can I just set it up like Amp----Effect----Guitar??

Oh thanks. How much does the adaptor cost and do I need any special plug?

Which one is more worth it in the long run?

I heard that there's a difference in sound btwn pedals powered by ac and pedals powered by batteries. Not sure if it's proven though.

get the one spot adapter from g77 in peninsula. $35. last time i checked (about a month ago) it was sold out. call them to confirm stock..

batteries, nearest mama shop can get...cheap and easy...

just don't calculate your spendings and you'll be happy :D

I don't trust batteries.. They tend to crap out on you when you can least afford it. Also, if you leave your stompboxes plugged in, your battery will drain, even when not playing.. Not cool..

I've heard that batteries supposedly sound better but I can't tell the different. IMO, the only advantage batteries have over a power adaptor is that the battery will provide cleaner power (perfectly DC). That means pedals that are susceptible to humming or buzzing due to poorly rectified power adaptors will be quiet with batteries.

yar..the only drawback is that it drains when you plug in the wires...even if the pedals is off...

luckily I don't use that many pedals...
