what distortion pedal to get?

hi i've been playing the guitar for awhile now but still havent got a distortion pedal... any good ones to recommend? budget around 100-200+ bucks. thanks!

good budget for a distortion... Well, there are a few choices, this are some of the more common ones...

1) Crunchbox
2) Boss DS-1(kinda bread and butter but I might be wrong)
3) Ibanez Tubescreamer (either the TS9 or save up abit more for a TS808)
4) Fulltone Ocd (not too bad, although some might think it's abit too bassy)

Might have better choices, maybe other fellow softies can help...

What level of distortion are u looking at? Metal? Hard rock?

Hmm im using digitech hot rod, it has different levels of distortion. You have to play around with the knobs to get the desired sound. haha.

about genre, i'm into both and crunchbox seems good...

I think if u're into intense metal distortion, the crunch box might not hit it...it'll nail the rock songs though. Depends on your expectations...if it's just for home playing it might suffice =)
Otherwise u may even consider 2 distortion units

I'd reccomend a Electro Harmonix Metal Muff. With or without the top boost.
