what amp(s) do u use?

Roland Cube-30 COSM.

COSM stands for Composite Object Sound Modelling.

Channel switching between Clean and Lead can be done via footswitch, three band Bass - Middle - Treble EQ. In built EFX station, including chorus, flanger, phaser and tremolo. Also can be controlled via footswitch. Also includes a Delay and Reverb effects. Useful "Out" jack for headphone playing and recording, and an external input jack allows for another input to be used. Works best for CD players or backing tracks, but a guitar can be plugged in too, although EFX have to be external.

The Roland is a very hardy amp, DSP with 30watt output through a 10" standard speaker. It's very powerful for its wattage, and I have yet to crank the volume up full.

The COSM provides 8 different guitar sounds from that amp, JC Clean, Acoustic, Black Panel, Brit Combo, Tweed, Classic Stack, Metal Stack, R-fier Stack.

The JC Clean has an excellent clean tone and ring to it and is modelled after the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus., while the Metal Stack, which is modelled after the Peveay EVH-5150 has a high, crunchy and throaty gain for heavy distortion. These are the two main channels that I use.

The R-Fier Stack, modelled after the MESA/Boogie Rectifier is super high gain, excellent for slash and grunge, though not my type of tone. Very high and dry, in my opinion.

The Classic Stack, modelled on the tone of a Marshall JMP1987 has a smooth tone. I don't use this much.

The Tweed Stack, on the other hand, is modelled on the vintage Tweed Fender Bassman 4x10. Lots of clear upper to mid range and a fat low end. Wanna know what this sounds like? Play "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness. The Intro is exactly what it sounds like.

The last two, the Brit Combo and Black Panel, I hardly ever use, but here's the low down on it anyway. Brit Combo is modelled on the Vox AC-30TB, and I feel the distortion is a little mild and character-less, while I honestly don't see what the Black Panel is for. Supposed to be modelled on the Fender Twin Reverb, but it is a clean sound (on mine, anyway) and for clean the JC Clean and Acoustic simulator is good enough.

Acoustic simulator works very well, although if your forget to crank the gain low, it sounds pretty crappy. I play on very high gain, so whenever I switch to the Acoustic Simulator without checking my gain, I get a nasty surprise.

All in all it's a very good amp, retails for $500 list price before discount. However, I should mention here that COSM effects create a very digital feel, and doesnt sound as real as the original stuff. Poor people like me, who can't afford the original stuff, must settle for the COSM. =P

My first amp: Ibanez TB-15R.

Small, sturdy little bugger with reverb. Distortion is very dry, lots of mids and highs, not too many lows. In my opinion, anyway. Not my sorta sound. Pretty decent amp. $100+ I believe. Good for beginners. Clean tone is decent.

Then again, what can you expect from a little 15 watter?

Haha i have the same shit too...it's a pretty fun amp to play with. Esp when u r home at night....just plug in a pair of headphones and u get decent tone out of it.

Praet.. the black panel is a clean sound and if u crank the gain way up u can get a slightly overdriven sound. To me it gives u a digital "tube" sound..haha. Poor dudes like us have to settle for tt.

U forgot to mention the onboard DSP! This baby comes with 6 efx, namely chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, delay and reverb. They aren't really that fantastic and each effect sounds more or less the same no matter how much u tweak them. Also it's very hard to control the decay of the delay and the swirling of the flanger and phaser. Kinda hard to use la. But if u are starting out they are pretty fun to play with. I rem i jammed on this fella for hrs the first mth i bought it. Yea it's tt addictive.

I love my cube.

Yes, it is really fun amp to mess with. Heavy as hell, too.

I did mention the EFX, just no review. Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah, the Flanger, Phaser all sound pretty much the same. Even if you set the delay on max it's pretty non existant. And the chorus has a wierd phaser-sorta sound to it if you crank it up high and take notice. Not very noticeable, but its there.

I only use the chorus, reverb, Metal Stack, Tweed Stack, and JC Clean. Once in a while I'll use the Acoustic Simulator. Can't really be bothered with the rest.

Once again, I must say that the Cube 30, although a little overweight, is excellent value for money. Really fun too. I havent bought a single EFX pedal since the day I got that baby.

Kustom KGA65.

My first was a Rocktron 10 watter. You had to kick it with your foot to activate overdrive. Literally.

peavey 5150.

one freaking solid amp.
gonna "mod" it after my exams...
make it into a 60watt head with a 2x12 cab. and install eurotubes.
then can bring it for jamming.

I got it second hand for 900 sgd. New should be around 1200 USD. But yeah theres no dealers that i know of in Singapore.

The rocktron 10 watter was my LIFE for the first 2 years when i started out. Now it sits in a corner collecting dust. I'm refusing to dispose of it 'cos its my first ever amp

Used to have a first generation Marshall Valvestate... ok, beginner amp... sold it... now looking for a small tube amp, probably a Carvin Vintage 16... basically looking for a clean, clean sound...
