for me..i recomend Takamine. brand..its a gd brand for acoustic..
or u can try the brand "Costom Acoustic"which i have not try before..it seems good..
but i prefer Takamine.

Hi, I started out with a TGM acoustic. It has a pretty nice feel to it. I recommend you to give it a try. You can find it at Peace Center over at Selegie. Daisy Rock and another guitar shop beside the McDonald's has it. It's very² cheap ($55-$65). I have no regrets buying it. In fact, my guitar is right here beside me as I type. You should try it. Good luck, bro!

PS: Should you not like it after you have given it a try, please please don't flame me. It's all about personal preference afterall, bro. He he. Take care. By the way, welcome to S.O.F.T!

yeah i heard takamine is good also. fits ur budget i suppose. u can get it at davis tough not much choice there. or maestro? i dont know the price though

u can try going to penisular hotel basement for a walk..mayb u can find wad u wan there..tats this shop call "davis" do check it out.

Hm.. What's the different between normal acoustic and TGM acoustic??

Sorry i'm really very very new to Guitar.

TGMs does not manufactures well as compared to well established brands. Some complained that it has a high action, which means string height is high, making it difficult to press down. This might give beginners a mentality that guitar is difficult to play. Some says it has poor finishing.

Well established brands (eg. takamine, cort and custom acoustic) has a strict quality standard when it manufactures guitar. The price is based on the types of woods used (eg. spruce, cedar, mahogany). Also price can be based on whether the guitar body (usually the top) uses single wood (solid) or layers of wood (laminated). This affects the resonant of the guitar.

It is good that you ask a guitar expert to go down with you. He/she can give you tips on selecting a good guitar.

For that budget, I'd recommend a Samick acoustic, though you'd have to pick out from a few which one sounds best because the quality control can be quite inconsistent.

I own a pre-Greg Bennett Samick acoustic (LW-015) that's 8-years-old, badly beaten-up, and sounds really good to my ears. More worth it than a TGM in my opinion. And the fact that the post-Greg Bennett ones are supposedly even better, why not?

Greg Bennetts I think range from as low as $180 to *wow* a stunning high of $1K+, but those high-ends are rare, special pieces. They are generally meant to be very affordable.

Or, for that same price range, check out Custom Acoustic. I haven't tried them but I hear tons of good things about them.

yeah davies has loads of acoustics near your range.
i'd say maestro for sound and quality (WHOOHOO LOCAL BRAND!), but it's sorta out of your budget. =/

TGM is a brand of guitars. I recommend you Congress acoustic guitars, I got mine at $130 and it's really worth it. With a proper set up, it can sing like a bird.

Cheers,
WWH

i have heard good things about cort... they do very cheap spruce tops- so great value...(especially if you want your guitar's sound to age)

for $200 though, i think you should look around for a second hand guitar...
all the above brands that have been mentioned sound fine- a yamaha or something would be fine too....

most importantly, you should look into setting up your guitar with a pro- so that the 'action' is right... (easier to play) and they can probably make sure that your guitar intonation is in tune too....

all the best!:)

hmm to echo the sentiments of some of the replies to this thread, Takamine is a good choice. Just head down to Peninsula Shopping Centre basement 1 where Davis Guitar is, and ask to try any of the Takamines there. You can get one for less than $200, for a non plug-in acoustic. Get a more experienced guitarist friend to go with you for advice. :)
