oh cool.
i was wondering yesterday night about this, and now i can ask you.
i see you have experience shooting gigs but do fixed lenses impede shooting?
as in the pics all have the same zoom distance?
how do you get variety other than angles?

Prime lens definitely is a con in shooting gig photography, other than their big aperture in my opinion.
But I just have to work with it (still saving for a D3 and 70-200mm).
Like knowing it's limits and focal length, the rest will be walking around to get other perspective shots, and pretty much anticipating, cause the AF speed + the lighting at this gig is a killer for an old body like mine, can hunt a hell lot.

If you have the money, just get a 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom to save yourself from all the trouble, unless you need the big apertures from prime.

haha cool.
nah im just curious i don't have the budget to do gig photography i need a ext flash and all.
if i really wanted to i'd just borrow my friend's 1Ds Mark II and his 70-200 lor :D

thanks for your info (:
