Warwick Survivability in Singapore

Hey guys,

Just wanna ask about Warwick basses living in Singapore... I know of a friend who has bought 2 Warwick basses before, one streamer and one thumb, both made from Germany. He sold it off already because the neck got warped till it had a big crack.. Both was bolt on 5 piece neck..

And I know of another friend... who has a 600 bucks Warwick bass and it hasn't even warped at all for a long time =/

I was wondering if anyone knows why this is so? I've been hearing from all over the places that Warwick basses warps easily here in Singapore...

I can think up of a possibility as to why the 600 bucks Warwick bass didn't warp... It had a high gloss finish while the streamer and thumb didn't... But still, I have no idea....

And I have another friend who has a Warwick Thumb but his neck didn't warp... I asked him if he did anything special to it and he said he did not... =/ wierd...

I had a corvette that required tweaking every few mths.. With the regular waxing required, I had to sell it.

The finish has probably got to do with it. I guess a glossy finish protects the bass from the humidity, thus preventing the warp?

i find it quite ridiculous that a bass instrument needs this kind of high maintainence - because the body is unfinished wood, you'll need to wax it once in 2 weeks, if not the part of the wood that touches your body will change color over time.

I stay far far away from warwicks.

I should be the master of the instrument, not the other way round. I should be the one in control, pick it up, play, wips and put it down, and not requiring high maintainence need to buy wax, and then wax the entire body all the time.

agreed!! take care of ur instrument n the instrument will take care of u.. it's kinda symbiosis mutualism between u n ur instrument:)

I got Warwick thumb BO 6 broadneck (bought in 2006), and the neck is perfect straight.. my previous Warwick corvette 6 (which is already sold to other fella softie recently) has a perfect straight neck as well.. the only reason I sold it is juz because of urgent need of cash :( otherwise I'd definitely keep it,, the sound is just simply amazing :D

Hhmm... again I have two parties of warwick users here... one party which their necks did not warp at all and the other party who had to tweak their necks every few months...

Did u guys do anything special to ur warwicks for those tat didnt had the neck warped? like got a dehumidifier at home? or had the high gloss thing as a finish?

yup, I got a dehumidifier myself.. it's pretty handy for long term investment (at least for me) since it can also be used for my Taylor acoustics :) it'll cost u ard S$400 btw..

or alternatively, u can use thirsty hippo packs.. put it inside the case, and always put ur bass/guitar inside the case when u aren't using it to keep it at low humidity level.. Hope this helps :)

humidifier or any kind to keep the air dry is a big no no no for wicks. the wood can become too dry and problems might occur.

got a vette taranis. i just lightly wax the neck once a week or so, and if u prowl the warwick forums, a wick luthier says the sweat and oil from your palm is sufficient. but wicks owners are known to wax their bass than play it! LOL

and i was the wick regularly for the reason that i travel with the wick from the heat from the bus cargo compartment to the cargo on an airplane.

and my wick is not straight :((( its slightly relief kekekek hahaha.. for nice low action. :) cos the guitard that check the neck always commented wick suck and show the slight bow on my bass. try explaining but hey its a guitard. no amt of explaining works.

It's true that it's hard to explain why some Warwick necks will warp while others is straight as an arrow. I've got 2 wicks and they both react differently. The one with natural finish, the neck is really straight and stable, while the one with a lacquered finish warps. I've sent one of them for some work to fix the neck and hopefully the neck is stabilised. but i love warwick nonetheless...:)
