Vox's new hand wired AC4

What do you think of the new AC4HW1? I myself am in love with the tone from the AC30, and now it is available through this 4 watts amp. Do you think it's worth the spending? If it were me I would rather pay the extra 100 bucks or so to get the AC30C2. But maybe the AC4HW1 would have the upper hand since it's hand wired? I guess it's a preference thing. Those who are willing to fork out the cash, City Music might/are bring these in, along with some other additions.

Here are the specs to the AC4HW1: http://citymusic.com.sg/webshaper/store/viewProd.asp?pkProductItem=816

Bear in mind that you will not be able to get the same amount of headroom out of the AC4 as you will an AC30, but if it's dirt tones that you want, I'm pretty sure that the AC4 has it in spades since it's only 4 watts and sports two 12AX7s as opposed to just one like its predecessor. I would stick to the AC30 for performance purposes since it would be near impossible to hear yourself in a full band mix, especially with a heavy-handed drummer unless you use in-ear monitors. But I'm sure it'll do great for solo performances, bedroom practice or recording sessions!

Too bad about the new added MV feature la lol...

Though I still wouldn't pay $1000 and above for a bedroom amp for the tone of an AC30. I rather stick to owning an AC30 than the 4watts at that price range. Still have ways to go before I could own an AC30... How I wish I had started saving when I was younger.

I would say the 4 watter at this price... is not worth it. it can only play alone since its output is so low...

I beg to differ. A proper mic-up with a good floor PA should solve that. The problem would be you and your bandmates being able to hear yourself on stage, unless you have good stage monitors.

Price-wise, one would have to try it for one's self first. Having played a Fender '57 Champ, I wouldn't mind paying for it if I had expendable funds.

some venues might be not have adequate mic-up capabilities, especially when the AC4 has to keep its volume low to maintain a clean sound

monitors to hear yourself would be a subsequent problem

so all in all... if it is me, I would prefer something more versatile / practical (tube amp with at least 20 watts, ss with at least 60)

^ Well you could always ride on your guitar's volume knob to get a clean tone, that's the beauty of tube amps! But I'm definitely with you on the min. 20W thing.
