Hey people, I'm rather new to multi-FX but after doing some research I concluded on the final 2 - Vox ToneLab STor Zoom G2.1nu

I need help from some of you guru's out there! Honestly which is a better pick? In terms of say tweakability and tone quality. They seem like a pretty close fight to me.

Not sure about Zoom G2.1nu but Vox Tonelab St provides a more realistic and warm tone. The distortion sounds great . Tried to boost the Vox Tonelab ST with my Signa Drive and it provide a positive tone too.

Yeah I've heard similarly from a number of others too, however can't say the same for the G2.1Nu cause I reckon it's not as popular in the community (or rather not many guitarists have it) hence harder to get comments on that one.

How long have you been using the ToneLab ST? How is it's tweakability? Like when you first got it how quickly did you get used to it?

I'm actually buying this for my brother, and he's the 'better' one so it would be better if he came along to test 'em out. However he hasn't been really free these few days so thought I'd might as well get some opinions first!

ToneLab ST is 260 on city music now, G2.1Nu is 284. It was the older model G2.1u that is much cheaper. ToneLab ST and G2.1Nu both have tubes if what I interpret from the product descriptions are correct.

Its pretty easy to tweak and quite straightforward. 1 day to get used?

Haha well I was the one who intro-ed him into guitar playing, but I've become really bad from no practice due to work at a certain point. Now I hope my bro gets better than me!

i still think pedals with tube running on low voltages are marketing gimmicks. sure they can help get the tone, but so does any good pure solid state modeller. it's the feel that counts the most, the way the tone respond to your picking dynamics. most multi effects can nail good overdriven / distortion tones, few will feel like a real tube amp.

and after all that, i still think the tube in the vox does little if not nothing at all. if i wanted a tube that worked as intended in distortion pedals, i'd go for blackstar's 300v stomp boxes instead of a 9v / 12v / 18v pedal

Haha that's true but... Kinda tight on budget, and this whole multi-FX thing is more or less rather... Experimental, I'd say.

Blackstar pedals are really amazing, youl have all the dist sound you want and with power, but, we are taking price here, and ht-dual is only a 3-channel pream type pedal with 2 footswitch, Vox is multi effects with expression pedal, with cabinet modeler, and can also have a great range of dist sound,.. so yeah madwerewolf is right, experimental i go vox, if your brother gets better then buy him a professional sounding blackstar pedal,..

yep, buy based on the actual sound you get out of the pedals, don't buy that vox pedal just because of the tube marketing gimmick. despite the tube thingy, the vox is actually quite reasonably priced. i'd personally choose the vox over the zoom. interested to know what did TS buy for his bro

Not sure if my Blackstar HT-DIST counts as a low wattage pedal (faux tube pedals)
But I do remember that its some 16VAC. Not so bad eh?
Although It sounds good on amp, it could still do a better job with the speaker emulation going straight to mixer.
Hehe.
Sorry for off topic

Hahah my distx into mixer direct is also leaves much more to be desired hahah, but after some processing from the gt-10 to give it a more cabinet sound etc its nt that bad.

I believe tonelab st and g2.n1u are both really good multieffects for that price point, their distortion sounds are warm and realistic and puts some of the more expensive modellers to shame in terms of amp modelling. Definitely a great tool to give you everything you would need for a first gig.
