Vox AC30CC1 speaker change

I've been thinking of changing out the stock Neodog speaker on my Vox AC30CC1, it sounds just a bit too harsh and thin IMO. The stock Neodog speaker is rated at 16 ohms, but there's an external speaker output at the back of the amp which is selectable between 8 ohm and 16 ohm. According to the Vox manual when something is connected to the external jack it automatically disconnects the internal speaker.

Would it be possible to put a 8 ohm speaker in and connect it to the external jack with the selector set to 8 ohm? Without an internal speaker connected would it cause any problems?

mate, have you broken in the speakers yet?

I've got the AC15CC; not the blue speakers ones, but yeah, after a while (about 20hrs of non-stop music running through), the speakers broke in and it removed the harsh mids (typical of new speakers).

Might just save you some $$ in buying replacement speakers IMO.

Cheers

yup the amp's been played quite a bit, in fact, I'm the second owner.

The speakers for the AC15CC and AC30CC are different though, I think the one in the AC15 you have is the Vox Wharfedale speaker, mine's the Celestion Neodog, I'm not too fond of the voicing with the neodymium magnet.
