I bought this dreadnought guitar 28 years ago at the Kawai shop at Thomson Plaza. Model is F-200D. It sounds very good since the wood has matured. I believe it has a solid top and solid sides and back. Please have a look at the pics below. Does anyone know what wood its made of? And its value today? If you have the information, please let me know. I would be forever grateful!! :D I have no intention of selling it, just want to find out more about this old guitar of mine. Written to Kawai, but no reply from them yet. Thanks.

Nice guitar! I don't doubt it sounds awesome, too. I have an old Samick and she still sounds great.

For your guitar, I'm quite sure the top is spruce, just that it has darkened with age which is normal. The back and sides are probably mahogany but I'm not too sure... It looks like mahogany to me..

Thank you for your info. Nice to know you have your vintage Samick. I am glad I kept this old guitar all these years, as I'm sure you are too!

Yes, the top was much lighter in the early days. So its spruce. Rest of the wood is probably mahogany like you said.

Is there anyway we can be sure that its solid wood or laminate? I mean, I can see wood grains at the inside of the guitar. Took another pic.

You'll be able to see wood grains inside the guitar regardless of whether it is solid or laminate, if we're talking about the back and sides. The thing is whether the grains on the inside match those on the outside. If they do match, it's solid wood.

As for the top, just look at the sides of the soundhole, if there are no observed layers, and you see the grains curving in and continuing, then it is a solid top. If there are layers, then it is laminate.

Thank you for the tip! I learned a new thing today.

OK, I think the sides are laminated (the inside and outside grains do not match). That means the back is probably laminated too.

The top is probably solid, could not see any layering. Thanks again for your help.

Kawai replied me. The guitar is all laminated wood I'm afraid.....:(

Top: Spruce
Back & Side: Walnut
Neck: Nato
Fingerboard & Bridge: Rosewood
Position Mark: Dod
Inlay: Brown
String: Kawai light

Still, I love it just the same! :D I don't think its worth a lot though. Glad to know you and I have the same vintage guitar. Where did you buy yours from?
