VINTAGE 1974 Fender Stratocaster

Dear all,

Today I am putting up a lovely 1974 Fender Stratocaster for showcase to see what kind of attention I can draw from it. This guitar was purchased several years ago and I am the 2nd owner (well, 2nd upon purchase at least.... :p), got this from a trade.

The guitar is absolutely beautiful. Natural relic all over. The nitro is peeling off, even the lacquer on the neck is too! What else can you expect from a 42 year old guitar? Haha!

A close up shot of the guitar for you to admire its beauty.

A shot of the headstock. The guitar has tiny dings almost everywhere. Showcases the real life 'wear and tear" of guitar playing over the years.

Note: The pickups that this bad boy came with originally were broken. Henceforth have been replaced with a reproduction of 1974 pickups, shipped in from the States. Everything else is all original.

Not exactly looking for trades as of now, but hit me with what you have and I'll let you know if it interests me! I'm looking into other vintage guitars as well, they interest me a lot. If you have something nice, just shoot! :)

Sale wise, I'm looking at $4500 OBO. No lowballers please, I'm happy to hold on to this beautiful piece. In time to come, price will probably shoot up too as it becomes even more valuable for collectors.

PS: Guitar comes with original Fender Hard Case that it was with in 1974. :)

Pics of serial number and verification can be sent upon request :)

Yep, same guitar; nailed it. He didn't sell it though, I traded my Fender Custom Shop telecaster for his piece, no top up on his end. You can contact him yourself @ 91524043 just to check in with him in the event that you don't trust me.

Yes, refretted and the screws around the pickguard have been changed to new ones too. Done so as the previous owner was afraid that they would become too rusty and that it would eventually be impossible to take out. Original screws still in my posession :) Thanks by the way! :)

Given that it was online (and on here) for a few months at $2600 without selling, don't you think $4500 is very, very ambitious?

Also is direct profiteering (within the same forum!) not frowned on...?

So your quote:

Is wrong? Why would you not mention a refret, and what else are you not mentioning?

Hi, sorry I forgot to mention the refret. A few things slipped my mind. When i was thinking of original parts i was referring to the bigger picture like hardware and pickups and the like. Sorry i forgot about that! For the record, I am not "direct profiteering". My tele retailed at $5500 and upon trading, the prev owner did not wish to top up. He also mentioned that he payed close to 5K for it. I did my research and have seen 78' strats go for $3800 to $4000 in Singapore itself. We did a 1 to 1 trade with no top up on his end. I was ok with it as I figured the market price for this piece would have been rather good. He also agreed that he could've sold it for a lot more and mentioned that $2600 was a major price drop from how much he spent on it. I believe he was looking for a quick sale as he mentioned he was trying to make space for his daughter. If i was "direct profiteering" i would have sold my tele for $4000, then paid $2600 for his strat and listed it up again at $4500. I did not. I merely traded my tele away for his strat. He majorly under valued it too. Either way, i won't sell the guitar for the price he had listed. For me, that is a major loss of money (especially considering i traded my tele for it). Thanks for your input nonetheless, Gentlemen.

And if i remembered correctly, the rosewood fretboard on this guitar is quite thin now becos of the refret job done, the board has been sanded to be leveled in order to install the new frets on it, and the radius is still the original 7.25 vintage radius. This is the major reason that hinders me from getting this guitar. I am afraid that this neck will not take on another refret job in time to come. Anyway original vintage pickups play a major part in these vintage fenders, i was not trying to be an a-hole or watever to mess up with your thread, just stating some facts. Only my two cents, chill.
