Hi,
Can someone pls recommend a few good practices for vibrato and bending? Cant seem to master it no matter how i try. Thanks

well.....maybe you'd like to specify what kinda problem are you having with vibrato and bending?

for vibrato, you can use either one of 3 fingers to rock the string. pick a note anywhere, and just create an up-and-down motion. its easy

G|---7~~~-----------------

for bending, there are many different types of it. double bends, quarter note bends, full note bends, unison bends yadayadayada..technique wise, you just wanna keep in mind that you're bending a note so that it sounds like the note you wanna get.

G|-------5-5b7-5-------------------------------
D|---5-7----------7~~~------------------------

if you listen carefully that 5b note is equivalent to the E note on the 9th fret G string. using bending can be a great advantage to your playing as you can sometimes play "hard to reach" areas lol.

in addition, bends and vibratos make a great team together too..

E-----10-------------------------------------------
B-13b----13---10---13~~--------------------------
G------------------------12b-12-10----------------
D--------------------------------------10-11-12~~
A-----------------------------------12-------------

i hoped this worked.

cheers ;)

Vibrato !!! one of the most important technique to master and getting a smooth vibrato required one to spend hours and hours on it. But it's worth every hour spend. Some guitarist have their signature sound it's in the vibrato...like yngwie malmsteen, B B king etcs.

For some it's easy, but for rest of us.. like me, struggle. So you are not alone.

Here are some practising pointers which i have used and i find them useful.

1. Use your wrist (more) and some finger muscle to bend any note (let's say D on 7th Fret, 3rd String) up and down in small movement.
Try to do it slowly but CONSISTENTLY. Trust me, slow and consistent is hard! Not just shaking the strings.

Imagine the motion of turning the door knob. You can do this even without the guitar. Just practise this for 2 minute continously at each interval! I'm sure it's not that easy as it seen.

2. Try to do wide vibrato, means you have to bend up and down more...somehow it helps me in building up the strength of the relevance muscle.

3. Continue step 1 & 2 for months.... building up speed of the vibrato. Or best have variation in your vibrato.

I find bending and vibrato has very much in common. Both required time to build up the relevance musles.

Don't give up...just spend quality time to practise it, practise do make some perfect.

I have gone through this frustation and i think you can too.

Video and blog explain it all.
