Using of CS-3 sustainer?

Hi everyone, im new to here. Just got myself a CS-3 sustainer. But i don't think it can really hold my notes long enough. Will hold longer if i were to increase my guitar's volume knob to the max. But it'll be very noisey by then. Hmmm..Did i bought the wrong pedal?

I have a Digitech's metal master as well. So it should goes like

Guitar -> Metal Master -> Sustainer-> AMP

Or the other way round?

Any player here knows well bout the CS-3 settings? Ur advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank u!
