Undiscovered Bands

Dear Friends,

A client has come to us with a large scale project, and here we come to you. The details of this project we are unable to divulge but we can tell you that we are on the hunt for undiscovered Singapore bands and the bands we pick will end up on a CD, with their names in print.

Here is what we a looking for –

1. A Singapore Band ( All members Singaporean)
2. A min of 3 members and max of 8
2. Genre played: Pop/Rock
3. Members have to be between the ages of 18 – 28
4. Must be passionate about music and willing to commit rehearsal time.

If this sounds like you and your band, send an e-mail to info@zaistudios.com with:

1. The name of your band
2. Members names (Please indicate the band leader)
3. Telephone numbers of 2 band members (Band leader + one more member)

We will reply you with an audition date/time as soon as we receive your e-mail.

Please prepare 3 songs. These songs can be both covers and/or originals. Original material is not mandatory but would be a bonus.

Auditions have already begun and we will only audition a limited number of bands so if you would like to be part of this opportunity then e-mail us ASAP.

Please note that there is a $10 administration fee for each auditioning member of the band.

So get ready, because we’re all ears.

it's up to you whether you want to do it or not. who knows it might turn out to be something great, if it turns out to be a scam then at least you know who scammed you. i don't think its a scam. zai studios have their rep to take care of. if it is a scam i don't think he would wanna put the name of his studio there. stop being so paranoid peeps.you'll scare away all the people who wanna make sg a better place.haha

Yep. It's your own choice whether you would wanna take the risk. The only stuff from the post that I would question is why originals aren't mandatory. Why must the band pay depending on how many members they have instead of just paying as a band. Auditions has begun, where else has he advertised, possibly bands that regularly jam there I guess.

Again, I don't think its a scam. If I were scamming people, I wouldn't tell them my studio name, and I probably won't bother with what genre of music their band plays.

Hi everyone, Thank you for viewing this thread.

To answer some of your questions:

Originals are not made mandatory for the audition. The judging criteria goes beyond the ability to write original music. Factors such as musicianship and musicality are among qualities that are assessed.

Administration Fees. The more people there are, the more paperwork there will be on our end. It wouldn't be fair to a band with 3 members to be paying the same amount as say a band with 8 members.

Language. Bands have to do music in English.

Hello Zaistudios, you mentioned lrge scle project; granted that large-scale is subjective - then plese tell us why covers are allowed??? Additionally, why only a CD and all the secrecy???????????????????????????????????????

It's not like it's something for worldwide distribution.

Dude, there is nothing secret about wanting to find a bunch of local bands and then putting their music down onto a CD. It's been done before. Why doess your current endeavour have to be so secret? Seems like the only thing you have divulged is your studio name, the cost PER GROUP MEMBER, and the CD that will appear at some time in the future which we have no idea as to when that will happen and how many copies or where it will be distributed??

I assume that you will in some way earn some pecuniary rewards from this endeavour and if such is the case, as it is with any other business, I would assume that you will also spend some of your time scouring for bands that may not be reading your posts here?????\

And if you have done so, then why not let us know who these bands are? Or is that also another sescret that is under wraps???

Hi RoRk, do you have a band who feels you are good enough for worldwide distribution? If so, do let us know. We could set up a seperate audition and if we feel your band is up to that standard then perhaps we might consider.

Releasing Details. There seems to be a ton of speculation as to why details are not offered up. This is a project unique to Zai Studios and we reserve the right to discrimate disclosure. Also, we have to protect the interests of our clients.
If you feel/think that this has been done before you wouldn't need answers from us. You'd have them already.

Allow us to clarify once again that originals are not mandatory for the audition. The audition, is merely the first part of the process open to all bands who fit the criteria. We are extending an arm to bands who may or may not otherwise have the opportunity to be heard.

Administration Fee. Once again, it is made per member, to try and keep this fair to bands with varying numbers. Paperwork is involved and we have to pay administrators. The administration fee is a one time fee applicable to auditionees only.

Putting out a CD. It is NOT easy to put out a CD. A very large sum of money, time, talent, ideas (the list goes on) are involved. However, difficult does not mean impossible and finding the right bands is the first step to making this bumpy road a meaningful one.

Sofyan, thank you for pointing out that the choice is yours. We are not here to try and sell you anything or convince you that you should participate. We, along with our client, would just like to offer an opportunity to bands who really love their music and want the opportunity to have it heard. This is for the bands who need a break and want to be on a CD but wouldn't otherwise have the money or the opportunity to.

Heya Peeps, Just a heads up:
We've gone through some rounds of auditions already and here's a little note for you guys who have yet to audition.

Please think out of the box! We know that we said you could do covers but every band that comes through here delievers it straight up, note for note! We don't need you to show us you can sing something that's already been done. We want to see/hear you do your own twist on it. The whole point is to showcase how interpretive you are musically. =)

Other than that, good stuff though. We're mighty impressed. Who says there isn't talent here in Singapore!
