I've been using the ultex for quite some time now, if you have a problem with the texture, you can use a nail buffer to smooth it down, but playing it a few days should get rid of the scraping sound if it bothers you. It's a good all around pick.
@shyamalan - Probably advisable to have multiple types and gauges of picks in your arsenal especially with recording, the ultex is one of the best heavy picks in my opinion but if you like a brighter sound, thinner picks are far better for recording crunchy rock rhythm tones
