Tuning guitar down a semitone.

hi everyone,

i have a query regarding the tuning differences of an electric guitar.

i was playing with some friends when 1 mentioned about tuning down to a semitone.

so i was wondering what does that means?
i've never been to any classes so musical notation and theory seem very alien to me...

are some songs meant to be played wif a guitar tune down?

down a semi tone, means tuning all your strings one semi tone flat, hence you're strings, if you are gonna tune to one semi tone down would be, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb.
which is also technically known as tuning down half a step.

A band that uses this tuning a lot would be metallica or X japan, basically your general heavier rock stuff.

they are half stepd downs.

think guns n roses, they use all half step down tuning.

so basically i just tune my strings half step down as zac is mentioning.
