Trying out playing Blues

hey there.

the file is way too big man! 20 mb! try converting to mp3 next time yeah?

now on the playing - i loved your tone.

althought i thought your phrasing could have been better. seemed like you always were playing it safe. try playing off tempo/just before the beat a little.. if that makes any sense.

you could have included more legato work too.. me thinks.

all in all i liked it! loved your tone man.

regards

Cool!! Nice improvisation and vibrato!!

if venture to lower octave and higher octave maybe even better

Rock on!!

GREAT... Nice try...

Blues isnt actually easy for some of us asians. Cuz its not the playing thats dif, but it all abt feeling the blues... Thats wat im still working on;)

Listen to more, n hopeful u can feel it better, get better ideas rather than using cliche licks... we use them to hide our lack of ideas many times... haha

White man blues or Black man blues, dig it

I agree wif u Weiht.

I hv a DVD of SVR..us should look at his face when he play...He really put everything on the fingerboard!!!!!

Long live the Blues!!!

SVR said a lot abt Albert King..I've not listened to any of his stuff yet.
Any recommendation?

oh i watched a jam between albert king srv n bb king. U can really tell the dif between the white man n black man style.

The way albert bend the strings, wow. V seducing, haha

But weird cuz he string the string the opposite way EBGDAE. The other way ard, where the high E is place the top. I saw a malaysian player did it too, wonder if its a preferance or something to help them play better?

I listen more to Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton (tasteful man), SRV, ZZ Top... The other watched John Mayall n EC jam on Central... WOOHOO

Its like they no need to think what to play...

the malaysian player must be man kidal i think. if he uses a white strat and is a lefty, then that's him! he's got superb tone, and he only uses ds1, ch1, and dd3 thru a marshall. its all in the hands!

or it might be joe from wings if he uses a black les paul and try to be zakk wylde!

its stringed that way coz when they were starting out, they used/borrowed a right handed guitar and used it lefty without changing the strings. its very difficult to play that way, coz the fingering for chords and scales are totally out! insane!

and sorry if i pm u! clicked the wrong button!

OMG, how they play chords man...

So that is why they play their guitar like that...

Yup the Malaysian guy is the one who uses the vintage white strat through a Marshall. Looks like a Malmsteen clone:) Quite incredible man, i watched him play on TV2 not too long ago while flipping channels... Music wise, not my taste, but still he is v gd.

he is good rite? his tone is superb and he don't overplay. he is 'man kidal.' that means lefthanded in english. and he used to be in a mat rock band called lefthanded! hahahhhah! i listened to them when i was very young! he is a sessionist in malaysia now.

He is like very famous leh... It was like his concert, then pple come out n jam with him... Like a EC crossroad or something.

Yup he is very gd... HE picks when to shred n when to just keep it simple. The tone is more to the vintage feel, nice amps... Also got gd stage presence. Too bad i cant understand malay or else shld enjoy it further.

lol they were playing mat rock, like u said

hi jay, sorry, been talking too much abt man kidal!

just heard ur track just now... its the 3rd track i heard today. its very good! love the 'raw' recording! i'm depressed now! hahahhha! keep it up!

hey nice playing there, jay_clones. i may not be much of a player, but i guess blues really do make my sit up in my chair and listen close. no reason why anyone would laugh at your playing lol. i think its awesome.

on another note, any idea where i can get a copy of the SRV DVD u mentioned?

try gramophone near city hall mrt station. i saw them there. its with an orange/yellow sort of cover. another good one is the srv tribute, u got lots of great blues players (bb king, clapton, cray, guy, bonnie raitt and his little bro jimmie) playing his songs. i recommend that too!

Hi

Thanx for the compliments people!! :D
Ok abt dat DVD, I got it at Raffles Place..Live in ElMacambo.... Very raw . no edit.
I LOVE IT!!!. He used Number One the whole nite except when he played Lenny. Trying real hard to nail his tones....I got small thin fingers & probably dats a disadvantage.

MAN KIIIIDAL !!!!!!! I'm a big fan of his!!!

Guess wat, I met him in person early dis year at Davis Guitar while I'm trying out an AMT Fataltube. He send his guitar for repair at Guitar Connection (yup..the white one) He had a gig with Papa Rock Ramli Sarip at Hardrock the nite before.
Super friendly guy..and brown long hair...hehehe
I asked him to try out dat Fataltube but he told me he hurt his finger tips after the gig.
GASP!...u should see the injury. It looks as if someone used a razor blade to slice his finger tips. There's deep cuts on his four fingers...dats how hard he grips his fretboard and his balls of tone is coming from.

Anybody taped dat TV2 show wif Man kidal? I have audio Cds of Konsert Rock Gerek for trades... any takers?
