Toneport

Toneport (IMPORTANT)

Hey there!

I just purchased a Toneport UX2 from city music, approx SGD 300, and I was really looking forward to trying it out at home

After installing the software and hardware, which was faST AND FUN, i tried the gear and i MUST SAY THE SOUNDS ARE REALLY REALLY GOOD.

The features are excellent and simple to use although the recording software they gave is just a LITE version, meaning you can only record up to 4 tracks, but hey, i guess you guys will probably have better softwares which should be fully compatible.

What blew me away was plainly the hassle free process for getting the sounds you need, and a bass/guitar/mic(condenser supported phantom-power) in an all in one machine.

HOWEVER, there is one major gripe which I think you should all take note of.

THERE is a very loud white noise that will surface once in a while (every 5 minutes or less) during playing/recording.

I tried with the process of elimination at first, substituting cables, guitars, everything I could think of and to no avail.I thought that I had gotten myself a faulty unit and proceeded to citymusic to get a one-for one exchange.

Problem is, after hooking it up on their computer, there was no white noise at all. Therefore I was stuck with gear that I could not use at all.

I decided to bring it home again, reinstall everything again and keep my fingers crossed.STILL DIDN'T work.

LOUD WHITE NOISE EVERYWHERE.

Luckily I went online and realised that this complaint is popular with fellow guys like me worldwide.

Pops, clicks, or white noise with TonePort

Question
Every once in a while I get a burst of static or a pop when playing through TonePort- how can I get rid of this?

Answer
First, please click on Start>Control Panel>TonePort, this should open the TonePort driver console. In the driver console, please change the ToneDirect Monitor number (which should be defaulted to 2) up to 20 to see if that resolves your issue. If it does, you can then start lowering that number until you get to the point just before where the pops and clicks start back up.

If that does not help, please run the Line 6 Monkey software and use the compatability check to make sure you meet the minimum system requirements. It is possible you have one of the problematic chipsets described below:

Problem:
"White noise" bursts at the audio outputs of GuitarPort, TonePort, and PODxt family hardware operating as USB soundcard

Explanation:
This problem interrupts data transfers on the USB stream that is feeding audio to the Line 6 driver, for output to the GuitarPort or PODxt. The computer fails to meet standard USB requirements in these situations, and as a result the Line 6 hardware creates a "white noise burst" at its analog audio outputs. This is caused by a flaw in some USB chipsets that were manufactured by Intel using the ICH6 architecture. The chipsets we have verified as having this problem are the 915G, 915P and 925X chipsets, although others may be affected as well. Intel publishes on their web site an Errata that provides a more detailed explanation. Please note that computers that create this problem produce problems with all USB 1.1 audio interfaces, not just those manufactured by Line 6. For instance, Digidesign provides their customers with similar information on this Intel chipset problem. Also note that your computer may have this problem even if other USB devices seem to behave normally. This is because other USB devices (like USB printers and hard drives) generally use USB's bulk mode of transfer, and do not produce noticeable problems if data is momentarily interrupted, as on these problem Intel chipsets. USB 1.1 audio devices, which have to continually input and output audio data at a fixed sample rate to provide audio, require USB's isochronous transfer mode, which is intended to guarantee the steady flow of data that is required for audio. These Intel chipsets fail to consistently provide the continuous data flow required for the isochronous mode and audio. If you want to know if your chipset is one of the affected ones, go to this link and download the program CPU-Z 1.30. This program will gather detailed info on your CPU. Once downloaded, run the program, select the "Mainboard" tab and note the information where it says "Chipset" (e.g. Intel i915PM/GM/GMS Rev 03).

Solution:
We do not have a solution that ensures proper performance on these computers. The most successful workaround we have found is adding a PCI based USB card (to desktop computers with these chipsets) or a CardBus or PCMCIA USB controller card (for laptops with these chipsets). Once these cards are installed, these computers often stop exhibiting the "white noise burst" problem, because the USB implementation on these cards overrides the flawed built-in USB implementation of the computers.

Please try to make sure your computer is compatible, and if it isn't, follow the steps to rectify it.There are other forums regarding this problem, so just google it .

Yes it's really lame irritating and time consuming, and I'm gonna try it now.

Sorry for the long Message, got carried away in the office.(need to appear busy once in a while)

Hey snuffle

thanks for your important message here which u brought it out. I am sure everyone will take note of that. I thinking buying one too but i am using lexicon omega now. I dont like my one is that the voice effect. I saw the demo at citymusic. The sound is really great and of course u must have a good monitor speaker too lah. Now x2 got no stock have to wait till next month.

I'm a Mac user and I must say that it's quite a godsend for me. We all know how good a Mac is for music stuff and the toneport just compliments the garageband perfectly. Sweet Gearbox software they provide. all the amp and mic models I need are there.

I'm a lazy person and I like how the toneport system works, short and sharp steps and I'm already starting to record.

Go try it out guys.

I believe i saw the UX1 and 2 at the apple centre at Wheelock Place. go try it out if you're a Mac user

Hey ! I just got myself a toneport UX2. I don't really favour the Ableton Lite version that came along with it. I though of trying it with another software like Fruityloops . Is it possible? :o

I bought the Toneport UX1 about 2 weeks ago and i really like how easy it is to use. The only problem i had was learning how to use Ableton Live. But after a while of reading i think i've gotten the hang of it now.

anyone has problems with bass sounds? i'm a bass player and it seems that no matter what i do. i just cannot emulate the tone i play live.

seems to los lotsa highs. EQ-ing them to the max also doesnt help.

anyone satisfied with the bass sounds they get?

Yep, I believe that the UX2 is still available at Epicentre@Orchard, still had about three units last saturday.

Cheers.
