to replace my guitar or not (studying in USA)?

i am studying in new york now and brought over my J&D DG-108 hoping to practise and continue learning (i'm just a beginner) and did not know wood instruments react to dry air :( :( :( had no idea about things like humidifiers... now the guitar is kind of screwed 'cause apparently the neck is now bowed and the truss rod can't be adjusted (i don't really know what the repair guy was talking about) and it now buzzes on the first 2 frets...

i am not sure if:
1. i should give up on it and throw it (the repair guy gave me the option of paying US$40 for a shot at humidifying it)

2. i should get a new guitar. getting a new guitar makes sense in that guitars are cheaper here (and i realise many more options)? but if i choose to keep the old guitar then i would have two guitars to transport back to singapore!

right now i am keeping my guitar with humidifier (to prevent further damage) and intending to learn how to play avoiding the first two frets. haha probably good practice.

any advice or recommendations?

=(

If you're using just for practicing, maybe the cheapest option is just get a Capo and clip it on the 2nd/3rd fret.
