Hope I got this in the right section.

Currently, I own a beginner electric guitar and taking private lessons. My teacher is teaching me lots of chords and strumming which to me suits the acoustic guitar playing. So now I'm thinking should I get the acoustic guitar or not? OR am I just gonna waste my money?

Just need some advice on this
Thanks

Don't bother if you don't want to play acoustic. I never did (ok fine i did have a cheap classical lying around, not as though I played it much). What he's teaching you is the basics you need to know no matter whatever you wanna play. From there you can expand to where you wanna go into musically.

acoustic guitar usually helps to train your finger strength. every time i go back to acoustic once every few months my fingers ache a lot easier, and it helps me to retrain finger strength. toughens/hardens your fingertips as well. the electric guitars spoil me :P

i always find it useful to have one acoustic guitar around. now my cheapo first acoustic is beyond unplayable. fixing it is cost ineffective and will be more expensive than the guitar itself. i need to find a proper acoustic guitar after my exams.

its a matter of preferance, i personally like to play the acoustic when im lazy to on the amp and everything haha. and the electric can do anything the acoustic can, so if its not a need to get a acoustic, yes save up for a higher end guitar

get an acoustic guitar,
it'll give you new depth to guitaring.
you'll never regret buying one.

just go listen to " time to breathe" by Mattias IA Eklundh.
wonderful electric guitarist.
but yet at the same time being able to do such splendid things with the acoustic.

Well, thanks guys for the advice. I think i will get a cheap acoustic cause i like some acoustic songs and probably kinda lazy to plug my electric guitar to the amp everytime i wanna practice my chords. So hope its saves the trouble.

Personally I think it's a great asset to be adept at both the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar. Opens you up to a lot of different musical genres. But of course it depends on what musical styles you play. If you play stuff that sometimes requires either, you ought to be adept at both. But for example you only play heavy metal, there's no point in learning acoustic.

Personally I make sure I'm adept at both so that I'm versatile, since I like a wide range of musical genres. So if you're like me in terms of musical interest, it would be important that you get yourself an acoustic and work at it too.

My $0.02.

My advice is don't go for too cheap. Get a decent steel-string acoustic that you can also mic up and use for small performances, etc. I personally recommend the Samick acoustics at Davis Guitar. They're good guitars, at least from my experience, since I own one. Around $150-200, or slightly more if you go for the Greg Bennetts, which are supposedly newer and superior.
