To all local bands

Well that is a good idea but how do we start?

Even in singapore organizers for entertainment line is quite poor. They prefer to promote outsiders rather than local bands..

Yeah it's not like before.
But u guyz who r still rockin' & rollin' don't put a fullstop on music.
Get involve with as many gigs as u want & u can build up a circle of fans from there.
Let your bands be known & I'm sure u can also get some record deals eventually.

LET THE THUNDER IN THE EAST BE HEARD THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE NATIONS OF ROCK!!!!!!!!

From the way i see it, theres plenty of undiscovered metal bands in Singapore now. If only organisers could concentrate on these bands instead of the more experienced bands to try to get ppl to come. New bands are always fun to watch, good for the band , good for the crowd(or bad lah). And theres plenty of gigs which can provide new bands with opportunities but then again, its up to the organisers lah . Organisers, do the right thing! Be a man!

so when was the time where there are more gigs for local bands?

For what genre, only metal and rock?

If there are gigs for blues, jazz, pop, electro, IDM, glitch, noise, ambient music, will those that mentioned little gigs to attend going for these sort of gigs?

Why is is that every few months, there will be thread like this

how to start organising gig?

Talk to people from those place that can have gigs, send mail, send proposal etc. Get organised, get money, get website so on and so on.

Imho, the last thing to go about starting a organisation about promoting local bands and have more gigs for them is to start talking about how, in a forum......

this might be a wrong assumption, but let me put forth what i see/read.

those that usually voice their concerns regarding the lack of gig/concerts/venue available here are relatively the musicians themselves. there is a lack of gigs/place for them to perform. to a certain extend it is true. but like brundisium state, rather than "just sit down and voice our concern only", go into action. do something about it. but of course it is not as easy as that (its easier said than done, rite?), money matters, time involved, promotion, organizing, etc.

i guess the problem lies with "us" also. when was the last time a local gig really have a 'full house" audience attendence? even for a free gig? not many are willing to support these local acts. (i'm guilty of that too now...) so i guess not many organisers would like to "support" these locals.

i remembered a conversation i had with a vocalist of a local band: "i will come and support any gig/band performance. even if i'm busy, i'll try to make an appearance. even for a short while. that is my way of supporting the local scene. hopefully the bands/musicians who are on the bill that day will come and support me the next time i perform."

i guess not many musicians/performers are supporting each other now, thus less audience, that equals less organisers wanting to call in locals acts, and that equals less gigs.

Business plan? hahah no. nt ready yet. Bt what i c ppl doing is, evn with $0 capital & w/o any sort of license/business knowledge, they book a place first, probably ard 400 to 600 bucks for 1 full day, n thtz as minimal as 1 could get i think, then get bands tht would pay up a participation fee, get each bands to sell tickets for the event, and what u will have in the end is revenue on participating bands+revenue on all tickets-rent expenses-equipment expenses+a lil bit of bank loan=a lil bit of cash. Frm there other expenses such as advertising or refreshments can b covered up, ofcourse with a risk of 0 net profit, or worse, a loss. Looks simple, bt can b tough to carry out.

To my point of view, could see that organizers for the band concentrate more on the most experience bands to attract crowd but in the other words there's a lot of talent musicians in singapore which we don;t really really realize and further more the support for local music in singapore is indeed very poor depending on PUBS n NITECLUBS.

Ithink instead of playing the same band everynite the clubs can also sponsor by allowing other bands to perform instead of only resident bands only so the talent is exposed for new bands.

it;s easier said in that way iam afraid...

Pubs and nightclub, the main point is not to expose more bands. It's really really good if they have event that showcase different bands and such. But ultimately, the majority of the crowd in those place during normal days, are not going to care about whether local band or non local bands They go there to relax, listen bits of music and spend money on the drinks. For the pubs and such, their main point is to sell alcohol, not to expose more bands....

Can you imagine, somtime when all these places having certain event with local bands, the audience can be a lot, but how many of them actually have the spending power compare to those yuppies that listen to pussy music, but loaded with money to spend. If you are the boss, which one you want to choose.

As for organisers having the usual bands, can we blame them when majority of the new bands could be playing punk, metal, emo, melodic, rock/metal, 80s rock, shred, 90s alternative in which have been overdone?

and before this thing turn into a genre bashing moment.

Just have a thought, with so many other local bands that might be playing similar style and concept. How do you want the organiser to notice you?

How bout having a press kit with band members bios, demo tracks and such. Pass it on around those organisers of gig etc. You might stand a chance, definitely higher than those really really hungry and eager to perform bands who promised they put in 101% effort blah blah blah, but without presskit, demos etc.

And if all these are done and still no gig. Perhaps it's time to rethink about the concept and direction of the music..

For presskit and demo, google.com should explain what is it...

i dont think we need TOO MANY gigs...but some gigs worth going :D
do practise and communication with some foreign bands.

i would go for gigs that had new bands.. problem is, i'm not really well-informed on gigs. hopefully that'll change..

i don't know about other genre gigs but metal gigs seem to draw in biased or image-concerned crowds, people who would go for a gig to scrutinize new bands, or just come to a gig to watch their band of preference. some guy who has "excellent taste of metal music" would just stand one corner and stare at bands worthy of his support. what's the whole deal with all this? is it so damn wrong for them to support a new band? are they so worried that doing this would tar their whole "i'm evil as fish" image?
since when does music take the backseat to the haircuts and apparel?

is this happening to other genre gigs as well?

off topic:
are there any darkwave local bands around...? :p
