TIM O’DWYER ASSEMBLES QUARTET TO PLAY FALCONRY ON JUNE 6, 2012
Singapore – To celebrate the local launch of the second Tim O’Dwyer Trio album Falconry, bandleader and sax whiz Tim O’Dwyer has assembled a team of Singapore’s top jazz and experimental music practitioners to play their version of compositions from that album.
Greg Lyons (tenor & soprano sax), Dr Tony Makarome (double bass) and Darren Moore (drums & percussion) join O’Dwyer (alto & baritone sax, bass clarinet) to rework material originally written for trio. Expect a night of creative play, spirited reimaginings and expanded sound led by O’Dwyer’s fiery saxophone channeling the passion of Coltrane and Ayler. With Makarome and Moore’s penchant for fashioning complex rhythms and Lyons providing added firepower, the quartet looks set to thrill and please.
Opening for the four are Aya Sekine (keys) and Darryl Irvine (drums). Sekine is a hot favourite on Singapore’s jazz circuit with her dexterous jazz piano while Irvine is the wild card poised to come up trumps.
The venue for the night will be the cosy and exquisite Blu Jaz Café that sits prominently on the lively Bali Lane stretch of night spots. Blu Jaz has the premier reputation of being Singapore’s top spot for jazz nights and also frequently hosts underground gigs featuring experimental and new music. On the evening of June 6, with the explosive jazz of Tim O’Dwyer and friends, it will do both.
