Thumb picks/finger picks viable on electric guitar?

I'm really uncomfortable with using the pick, whether to strum chords or to play notes. I would always drop them or hold them too tightly until it seems that the strings or the pick is about to break lol. I'm thinking of using those thumb picks/finger picks to avoid using picks when i play on the electric. Is it viable? It seems to be unusual though...

i dont think you should compromise using a pick because of reasons like this.. just keep practicing with a pick you'll get used to it.. unless of course you wanna play like mark knopfler.. thn yea go ahead and drop your picks

it just goes to show that when you embrace a certain practice, you have to embrace the entailment as well. i started out fumbling with picks too but learning to adapt is learning itself.

anyway, jeff beck & mark knopfler, among others, are successful electric guitar players who don't use picks.
