Thumb picks/finger picks viable on electric guitar?

I'm really uncomfortable with using the pick, whether to strum chords or to play notes. I would always drop them or hold them too tightly until it seems that the strings or the pick is about to break lol. I'm thinking of using those thumb picks/finger picks to avoid using picks when i play on the electric. Is it viable? It seems to be unusual though...

i dont think you should compromise using a pick because of reasons like this.. just keep practicing with a pick you'll get used to it.. unless of course you wanna play like mark knopfler.. thn yea go ahead and drop your picks :)

it just goes to show that when you embrace a certain practice, you have to embrace the entailment as well. i started out fumbling with picks too but learning to adapt is learning itself.

anyway, jeff beck & mark knopfler, among others, are successful electric guitar players who don't use picks.
