Those who have guitars with metal pickup covers/ Les pauls please come in.

Hei

Hi guys, i have a problem with a Tokai Les Paul.

seems that when my hand comes in contact with the metal cover of the pickups, there's this feedback/noise produced.

i've searched on google and this is what they call wiring/soldering issues right?

Wonder if you guys recommend any shops to fix this, or DIY if possible too.

and another thing..

I'm not sure as to should i suspect that this guitar is fake though..
its a MIK with serial number, are these issues common?

just checked with tokai registry

seems like there's only 1 person which the same exact model as mine out of the thousands there (its a lefty..),
6 digit without any alphabets too, MIK, but there's like a 15+- years difference in its production date though..

if it plays well then dont worry too much la..

i used to have a jackson MIJ but was serialed as an MII one, we all know how the factory screws up sometimes

it's recommended you bring it for an electronics 'check-up'... it won't be $100 worth unless there are parts to replace (eg: capacitors/ pots/ etc.)

taking a wild guess here, but my exp from wiring my GFS brighton rock pickups there was a step that needed you to ground the metal casings as well, on stock humbuckers or duncans with chrome or gold covers i believe the case is joined to the ground wire of the pickup?

I don't think it's the grounding problem. If it was the cause, the hum will be muted when he touches the pickups with his hands (because he becomes the ground)

In this case, the sound is produced when he touches the pickups, so it's kinda the opposite.

I maybe be wrong here though, just my thoughts on it. I'm still very new to all these electronics an stuff.

check to see if your ground wire is dislodged. pictures would be nice so that we can tell you if you have a real guitar or not.

bumping this thread for more replies.. will upload pictures later in the day, meanwhile just want to know what are the possible problems here.

up for more replies, would you guys think bringing it to sound alchemy for a setup would be a good thing?

Bring it them, and explain the problem. Do not say that you want a setup and walk out of the shop. They will only do a setup- adjust the action and neck, but leave the electronics untouched.

Explain and demonstrate the problem.

I personally think that one of your capacitors/soldering points is touching another connection, and by pressing on the pickup, you are causing a short circuit.
