Singaporean indie rock band, Great Empty launches premier EP
“Desire the Creator” is set to make waves within the music scene
SINGAPORE, April 07, 2010 – Indie rockers Great Empty announced the launch of their first EP with an appearance at underground space Blackhole 212. The debut album features the band’s latest singles; Cringe and Our Sense of the Beautiful amongst others.
Great Empty consists of Saifudin Sapari on bass guitar, Zuhairi Ali on drums, and Khidir Osman together with Rupak George on guitars.
Formed in late 2007, the band’s name was collectively influenced by a strong desire to be free from attachment in all forms, which itself is a reaction to society’s chief preoccupation with the self. The album includes a range of instrumental rock songs, which according to the band have been inspired by the likes of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, MONO, Tortoise, EF and The Samuel Jackson Five, integrating additional elements in the form of Indian classical vocals, spoken words, poetry, the harmonica and the melodica.
“Desire the Creator” also features a roster of collaborative people, artists and musicians alike. Entirely self-recorded, mixed and mastered and also independently released, the music is intricately layered and carefully produced to bring about a unique texture and deeply-resonant aesthetic with myriad shades and overtones - all to induce a palette of emotions for the discerning listener.
“Music is such a powerful medium to channel our deepest and most primal of emotions”, said Saifudin Sapari, the band’s spokesperson. “Our unique perspective and sonic integrity will hopefully draw people to realize that we are genuine in our approach and we aim to make a lasting impression on the global sphere of music”, he added.
The band’s music is available for free download at http://greatempty.bandcamp.com/ and physical copies can be pre-ordered on the site. A limited run of the six-track CDEP will be available from the 10th of April onwards along with exclusive artwork and illustration.
