The Unbearable Loudness of 'Modern' Mastering

whats wrong is that there is no contrast between the loud bits and the soft bits.

It's not the musicians or recording engineers fault, it's the mastering engineers who compress the mix so that it sounds louder than other CD's (based on the misguided logic that something that is louder is better).

its the current equivalent of those horrible V-shaped graphic EQ rubbish in the 80s......these morons are not interested in music and i'm not talkin abt the mastering engineers who often have to deliver what their clients i.e. the labels and mktg ppl want. But even the indies fall into this trap of loud is better.

The days of a cd sounding like U2's The Joshua Tree are over.....for that one you have to turn up the vol to reveal full details but thats part of the thrill........

well i believe not so appealing music + good eq = better sounding.maybe loud is better might be okay to certain extent.but proper eq is a must then.
