The Neck Heavy Deal-

Hey GUYS!!

okay, definately everone of you have come across or owned a Neck heavy guitar at one point or another~

And yet you see the stars shredding with these Guitars Live and you pick up your Guitar and it just keeps Sliding down, I mena you can still Shred! but it just requires more effort (you know what i mean)

SO anyways~ I was wondering if there was a soloution to it.

I always though that the Transmitters that they use live act as some sort of Balancing weight to keep the neck from sliding (not its intention, but it just works)

could be the leather strap they use that clings onto their outfits too.

Stars like :

HiDE - Mockign Bird
James Hetfield - Explorer ESP with strap button on the top

are just some examples : )

so how do you keep ur guitar from sliding too much ?

PS: its the only thing keeping me from loving these neck heavy guitars to the fullest!

tie a 4kg weight to the lower straplock?

on a more serious note, the leather straps do wonders. used my friend's sg and it felt perfect.

the rough leather kinda straps ?

Cuz they can leave it hands free and it stays. i just cant figure it out~

the underside of the leather straps are much like the inside part of a belt, it clings. :lol:

I use leather strap. my guitar is dead neck heavy. oh yeah,it's an SG copy..I just went on and drilled a hole on the upper horn. IOMMI-STYLE!

another alternative..I think putting a weight might help.

apart from the mentioned 'getting a leather strap'...

another way is to change to lighter tuners.
eg. some firebird users do that cos the banjo style tuners on them are heavy.

My explorer neckdives too, and its so tiring to play and at the same time push the neck up. Plus, im small sized! Need some tips

My main guitar is an explorer, been using it for about 4 years now. Just get a rough leather strap and it wont neck dive as bad.

instead of the strap at the bottom end of the guitar facign backwards,try
stretching it infornt ,over the body.so the whole guitar tilits upwards.

did that on my les paul last time.

drastic measure: drill a hold ion headstock then run a string through it and attach to strap like many accoustic guitar players do... :wink: :lol:

eh, they dont drill lah, just tie with string. alternatively, martin&co has a thingamajig you clip on there.

that gives an idea, why not drill holes in the lp. "swiss cheese LP"

most of these axes with neck heavy issues are actually the placement of the strap buttons being placed at odd points, add that to the radical shape of some guitars, it'll create a nasty neck dive. Many people tend to say the NECK itself is heavy, but it doesnt make sense anyway. A guitar's body will always be heavier than the neck, as the body houses the metal hardware, picksups and what not.

But all that doesnt apply to Eric Johnson. His guitars will never neckdive. Neither does he need to use a strap. But he uses one anyway as playing without one is too much for a normal human mind like us to handle and it'll probably explode from the awesomeness.
