The Ling Show!

She sang Larkin Step. She got hacked. Now she's back! Meet Ling, multitalented singer-guitarist songwriter whose self-penned Larkin Step touched the hearts of many a youtuber. So skip the youtube tributes (though they mean well) and come see the original at Homeclub! In a showcase tailored exclusively for her, Ling gets to sing whatever she wants whenever she wants...for your pleasure of course. Joined by exponents of rocking out, special guests S.P.O.N.G.E we promise this will be a night to remember. Can you hack that?

Performers-

Ling
Self-taught on the guitar, she sounds like a cross between Norah Jones and Jewel, and has sung in bands as well as on her own. Her repertoire consists of anything from Lifehouse, Matchbox 20, to Tori Amos, Rachael Yamagata and anything that strikes her fancy.
Ling started performing when she was 18 at open stages around Singapore. The Singapore Art Café Open Mic is one of her favourite haunts on Fridays. She also plays covers every Saturday night at Novus in the newly revamped National Museum, and Sundays at Timbre with Rene Hombre and Surath.
Besides covers, Ling also has written several. She first started composing when she felt that today’s music lack lyrical sensibilities. Her first piece was inspired by Philip Larkin.
She recorded in her own bedroom with minimal equipment, and then posted it on YouTube for her friends to listen to. Little did she expect her song to be featured on the website, gathering more than 1 million hits. Since then, the Newpaper as well as Wan Bao had covered the story of her sudden popularity.
However, the online hype ended when her YouTube account was hacked. Even so, Ling find the loss of her so-called fame strangely fitting, for a song about transience.
She continues to work hard for her music, and is currently working on releasing her original material in an EP late this year.

S.P.O.N.G.E
S.P.O.N.G.E is Mohamed Rahmat on vocals, Kenneth Tan on lead guitars, Nor Syafiq on rhythm guitars, Muhammad Syairazi on bass and A. Qader on drums. This new line-up was formed in June 2007 after ex-bassist Risdian parted with the band due to personal commitments. Syairazi, a personal friend, has since stepped in, introducing his own bass sound to music, which has drawn comparisons to bands like Coldplay and Incubus, while still managing to stand apart from his peers.
“News” a song about love and the frustration of being in love was S.P.O.N.G.E’s first song. Combining a funky rhythm guitar riff in the verse and a touch of atmospheric rock in the chorus, the debut single captures the diversity of the band’s influences.
The band’s second song, “For Fathers” reveals their serious side and the ability to write songs on themes that are close to our hearts, yet rarely acknowledged by modern music.
“Dreams”, “Come Home”, “Breathless” and “Today” have followed, showcasing the band’s different musical sides. Armed with a set of songs which consistently challenge the ear, yet infuses pop-sensibilities and sing-along choruses, S.P.O.N.G.E has played to crowds at Club Momo, DXO, Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore, winning fans with their music and personalities.
The band is now in the process of writing demos, with the aim of releasing a full album by early 2008.
