THE FOOTBALL THREAD Vol 2

wah another stalemate. the boys suddenly looked tired than usual, we're defending most of the time and didn't have the opportunity to break into a counter attack. not much communication is done, especially ramsey and rosicksy, our ball loved the tiang so much, kissed it twice, haiz.

seriously, luck wasn't on our side, but I surely hope we didn't exhaust all our luck in previous games cos we need it in upcoming matches. COME ON YOU GUNNERS!

and it's ARSENAL ........

ARSENAL F.C. we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen ........

I started following English Football when Ray Clemence was still in goal for Liverpool.

Gunners would caught my eye cos there was something about Pat Jennings I admired.

I made a wager before the season started that Arsenal would not win the EPL not because of personal sentiments but after some data processing haha.

It's a great club but maybe next season.

They'll beat Man U, draw with Chelsea & surprisingly lose to Pool, that's my thoughts anyway.

Gunners FTW!! 3-1
Got to get my Beer and chicken wings for tonight. Its gotta be a hell of a match with the tittle race being so tight.

Almunia, epic Koyak. I think Sir Alex paid him under table. Wah this season, we've been giving goals to Man Utd sia, Diaby's freak header own goal back at Old Trafford, and when Wenger didn't field Diaby this time, Almunia just have to do it. Urgh.

fgl's ratings:

3. cLINCHY -No support from Nasri on the left - exposed to Nani numerous times
4. Gallas - thanx god he played well or cud have been worse
5. Vermaelen - thanx god for him or we wud get prata kosong & maybe leggo even more
6. Rosicky - ok ok - tried his best
7. Song - ok ok maybe a bit tired after Africannations cup
8. Denilson - bought the balls for Almunia to sux & sux on a few himself ...
9. Nasri - sux on ice balls - never helped Clinchy & failed to properly track rooney for the 2nd goal!
10.Ashravin - tried his best but didnt have his shooting boots on
11. Fabregas - thanx god for him - never stopped running ... if only we had 11 players like him

1. Almunia - we should spare him from his misery and release him from his contract, then buy a real keeper that makes saves.
2. Sagna - i thought he was ok. Which Arsenal player can cross anyway?
3. Clichy - i miss Gibbs. Nuff said.
4. Gallas - Did pretty well I thought... can't be faulted for the counter goals since he was up front trying to score.
5. Vermaelen - imagine if Sol had played.
6. Rosicky - should take more shots.
7. Song - did pretty well i thought for someone out of the team for a month. And if he had broken Nani's leg in that yellow card challenge...
8. Denilson - huh, he was on the field?
9. Nasri - seems more intent to get in Fabregas's way and daddles too much on the ball...
10. Arshavin - credit to him but I wish he had a lot more stamina, was dying towards the end
11. Fabregas - I think he was thoroughly let down by his teammates. Particularly Denilson and Nasri

Conclusion:
Arsenal need to replace the keeper, and get a real REAL striker. And of course get taller players.

Arsène Wenger... disappointed with his team's performance

http://www.arsenal.com/match-menu/3214688/first-team/arsenal-v-manchester-united Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United
Barclays Premier League
Sunday, January 31, 2010, 16:00

'We were poor offensively and defensively'

on an emphatic defeat...
It is difficult to take but easy to explain because we were poor offensively and defensively cohesion-wise. We delivered an off-the-mark performance completely and that is why we were well beaten today. We gave them always too much room, we were naive. I believe we have to stick together now, recover and produce a much better performance next Sunday [against Chelsea].
on why his team were 'off the mark'...
I don't know. Did we want it too much? Were we a bit inhibited and tense? I don't know. The physical reasons are not obvious because we finished the game quite well and we were unfortunate because we gave the third goal away. You could see we finished quite strong and had we come back to 2-1 earlier maybe we had a chance but at 3-1 it was too much.
on doing transfer business by the deadline...
We are not on any business before tomorrow evening.
on failing to handle Wayne Rooney...
I would say they had other players who gave us some problems, not only Wayne Rooney. We gave them too much room everywhere and afterwards Rooney takes advantage of it. We conceded two goals which were 'corner for us, goal for them' - two goals, the second and third. I believe it was much more with our positioning and the intelligence of our positioning that we were wrong.
on the context of the title race...
It is a massive blow and a massive disappointment. But we have to recover from that, that is part of top-level football.
on a possible lack of belief or commitment...
I believe we had no cohesion defensively or offensively. The players wanted to win, they are really down. This team has spirit, a good attitude mentally, and it is very difficult to say straight away after the game why we were not at all at our level. We were naive.
on whether it means they are not as strong as he thought...
You always have to answer these sorts of questions [after a defeat]. Man United, in the last six away games against a top-four team, they got one point. Today is the first game in seven they won away from home against a top-four team. You could have said before that they were naive but they are not. They were better than us today for two reasons: one, they played well and two, we were not at our level. Why? It is too early to analyse that. I believe there are some mental reasons in there but it is difficult to say.
on next Sunday's game at Chelsea...
We have to focus on delivering a completely different performance because today we were never close in our marking and you do not win big games like that.
on whether the result was linked to the FA Cup defeat...
No, not at all. I would not like to go into individual analysis but some players did not play at all last Sunday and they were not at their best today.
on bouncing back like they did after the 3-0 Chelsea defeat...
We need something special now to stay in the race, of course. I am conscious of that.
