(let me first say I'm not affliated with Awe-In-One, so I'm not getting any benefits for posting this up.)

Mr John Leong had on the 2nd SOFT outing a few months back, made a presentation and given out complementary picks... of which, included a set of discontinued transparent awe-in-one profound picks.

i tried it out, and i really got hooked to the tone it gave... there is a particular "sparkle" using that pick due to the material used on the pick. It really gave my playing a hint of brillance, even with mild distortion or overdrive on. it was really perfect for me, especially now that i had converted to the jazz iii type-size picks.

i realised i needed a few more of the picks... I tend to lose my picks everywhere...

i tried to get it from the softies who came during that outing, but to not much avail. Feeling a little desperate and trying out my luck, I emailed Awe-in-One and enquired if I could purchase the picks on a private basis.

I had a really pleasant surprise...

Mr Leong replied, saying that the picks are going to be available soon, possibly on December, at authorized dealers (Sweelee, Citymusic, Davis, etc). Only difference was that it's coming out in tinted purple other than clear form.

On top of that, he offered to send me a complementary tinted purple pick so that I would not have to wait that long. AWESOME. How cool is that? :D

I've gotten the tinted purple pick now, and it's as good as the ones Mr Leong had given out during his presentation, and in a way it's better because it's much more visible (so you can still find it easily compared to the clear ones...)

My thoughts:

Most people would feel that Singapore companies/shops have poor levels of service. Awe-in-One must have been one of the exceptions. Mr Leong would not have needed to go the extra mile; I would have bought the picks off a retail shop anyway. He did even help out by informing which shops would be selling the tinted picks separately so I would not have to buy a full set (I already have a full set of the profounds). Again, I am very impressed and I thank Awe-in-One for providing such a delightful experience.

For those who are intrigued by the pick, here it is :

(Transparent, Tinted Purple)

I can't be sure if fellow guitarists/bassists would have the same experience that I had with this pick because everyone has a different way of playing/picking/style to begin with. In fact, I didn't always get great experience with all Awe-In-One picks. I have slippery fingers and I found the Awe-in-One Rock/Folk picks too complex for me to handle... I greatly prefer a standard set of everything on my setup, and concentrate on playing guitar rather than finding out all the tonal possibilities. So for me, that one sound has got to be very very good.

I would say though, it's especially satisfying to have a pick that sounds different from a Jazz III... more treble, more shimmer and sparkle. If you're a Jazz III user, you'd probably be interested to try this pick out.

For those who haven't tried Awe-in-one picks yet, try the multipurpose Awe-in-One Rock/Folk picks. I think that would suit people who hate the small Jazz-type picks. :)

ciel has been using those for quite long, almost a year. His is white non-transparant though. Are these of a different material from those? Can be found in quite a few shops actually.

That's truly a good example of good, if not, excellent customer service.

We certainly need to learn more about customer service from such examples.
Using relevant examples is definitely constructive and progressive. That's how one such as Awe-in-One gains a competitive advantage.

Customer service shouldn't be seen as a chore, it is critical to S'pore's survival!
Since Singapore relies heavily on the retail, trade and service industry...

"Sim Wong Hoo also mentioned the need of 'Creativity' in the local scene is essential to create more economic opportunities for Singapore because of the rise of China. In China, one can get product or service "more, faster, better and cheaper"."

The CONCEPT of customer service is important, not the technical definition. We have got several business degree holders who all know the technical definition very well, but their concept stinks. That's why it's bad here...

I hope I managed to clear up any confusion regarding my stance on customer service with this post.

i think they're the different.. from the pics, i noticed the translucent ones are a bit more enlongated than the ones already out in stores...

anyways! woohoo!!! must try the new ones qut when they're avialable... i currently own the super duper hard/think grey multi purpose awe-in-one and i find it quite good! better than jim dunlop's shark fins! :)

the transparent picks are made from different materials.. can't remember what material Mr Leong used though. I find the non-transparent profound series similar to the Jazz III's. I find the grip is different though... the Jazz III seems to "stick" somewhat, while the profounds use the grooves and the edges to ensure good grip.

Hi Thor, thank you so much for taking time to post this message.
It means a lot to me. I appreciate your forthright and gracious comments on our picks and service delivery. In turn, we are delighted to know that the clear Profound pick works for you, and we will hurry up with the distribution to our local retailers so that others can share the same experience.

I can identify with what Jumbofret shared: good customer service is vital for that ‘touchdown’ we all need to survive. It is also about leading a victorious life. Awe-In-One is a small start-up hoping to realize the dream of making guitar-playing a delightful experience to all. Along this uncertain but exciting journey, providing good customer service can seem to be ‘a chore’; especially when we are living in times of unstable employment, and often wondering when our job will be outsourced. So we can be bogged down chasing our own dreams and forget about helping others realize theirs too. In this instance, we are glad to have paused to ensure Thor gets what he deserves: making music and shredding that guitar till kingdom come! For this cause, we are happy to serve.

By the way, here are some notes on the Profound pick materials:

Existing Profound line
Light purple – soft nylon [similar material as the Jazz 3 red]
Dark purple – hard nylon, slightly stiffer than the light purple.
White – acetyl polymer, commonly called Delrin, which is known to produce a warmer tone associated with celluloid picks.

New Profound picks
Clear with purple tint – polycarbonate. Polycarb. For me, it plays like metal picks minus the abrasive swishing and string damage, and grips better than metal picks. Timothy, from Living Strings, enjoyed using it on his nylon strings. So I reckon, the smoother the strings, the better; might not work too well on worn-out or rusting strings.
Purplish blue – fibre-mix [similar material as the Jazz 3 black]
This purple is made of fibre mix - for players who prefer an even stiffer nylon pick. Also coming out soon.

Also, 3 cheers to Mr Soft, James, for realizing our dream to be a closely-knitted music community.
