Techno/Alternative Metal/Rock

Don't know if there's another thread like this (hell, I am not even sure if the title is apt ) but are there any really good local bands that play techno-sque/alternative stuff from bands and musicians like Rob Zombie (Dragula Matrix remix?), Asian Dub Foundation (Fortress Europe?), The Crystal Method (Born Too Slow?), Lost Prophets (Ride?), X-cuttioners (Body Rock?), Nonpoint (Bullet With A Name?) and of course, Marilyn Manson?

I have been a small fan of this kind of progressive music, with lots of exciting and very cool music effects and samples but I wonder are they very complicated to execute, and require expensive synthesizers and stuff? Sorry, I really don't know much about this kind of instruments, so sometimes I wonder IF there are local bands playing these stuff, how do they practise? I think some of their drum and percussion inputs are definitely computer generated.

What do you think of musicians in Singapore that you have seen performing music like this anyway? Those without having to use drumsets and guitar shredding and stuff but offer really cool sounds and visual performance? Do they seem 'less credible' compared to traditional musicians who make use of the conventional way of playing music ie. electric guitar with solo, pounding drums, bass and vocals?

Are there regular performances which feature this kind of alternative metal/rock in Substation or anywhere? I haven't been to many gigs but so far, I have seen none playing this kind - cool sounds and aggressive showmanship.

Just wondering.

you can check out dualtone, which has a more industrial based sound. they've turned into a full band during their last gig. so don't know whether it still falls under your category
MySpace.com - dualtone - SG - Electro / Trip Hop / Industrial - www.myspace.com/dualtone

another good band u can try out is frontline soundsystem. happening beats with RATMesque vocals, guitar and bass. they've just done an esplanade gig under straits records last sun.they rocked the spot, but the audience didn't quite catch it. worth checking them out.

of course, there's my band! Although we do more chillout stuff, with live instruments.

Suh-weet!

Not bad, not bad...

Definitely can do with a bit of polishing but for sure, you guys are on the right track.

On a side note - since there is little support for local music, how do you guys sustain yourselves, I mean for those who opt out of the drudgery of full-time work?

Do you guys collaborate and produce works for commercial clients ie. corporate videos/animation productions etc.?

Just wondering.

:D

thanks :)

i can't answer the cari makan question, but like you there's always a need to go beyond the usual stuff and explore. after all, as long as its fun and new, its always worth the effort.
