Hey guys just need to know...if a tape recorder will suffice for a very raw recording...not planning on any demos for that...just wanna record how the band sounds like...and everything we're playing as a whole....

actually using camera or mp3 also can , but dont place the recording device to close to one of the amp , put it like in the middle of all , cause if too close ah , later cannot hear anything

Yup. Tape recorders are fine. But I think MD players will be better. Get a good recording mic for it. It will be a very good reference for your band to go home and listen to how you guys sound.

Yeah danial made a very important point. Don't put the recording device too close to the amps or your recording might have clippings. Different studios have different arrangements so you'll need to go trial and error to find the sweet spot in the studio you jam in. Generally, find a spot where all the instruments sound the most balanced.

hey i've been experimenting with recording my jams with my band... best results i got was when we jammed in fourtones big studio, i think its best if you guys wanna record a good demo of your songs..

other than that, i use the itunes memo recorder. very decent for something so cheap (if you have an ipod that is).. i suggest just tape a little cotton around the mic itself to further reduce unwanted sounds, and your jam should be recorded well. and yeah, don't put too near amps and the drumkit.

good luck

i got a problem wif that also....

when i record (oh i'm using ipod as well) i cant really hear the bass and guitar...
and the vox lagi so soft......

dont know if shud get a better mic for recording or not

md is really good for recording. sounds very clear. with alittle editing, u r ready to go!

however, are there alt to other devices? i am sure mp3 evevn with gd mics don't sound really well when recording.

recording...

eh ipod eh record song? How? Mine is an ipod nano..the older version...back is shiny...
i went to carrefoure today...and everywhere harvey manson all that..place all dun have....haiz...even MD also they say no longer in use so never sell...

umm u can buy this ipod memo recorder... it's an accessory that allows you to record.. costs bout 100bucks from apple retailers. quite handy i'll say, especially if you like to record stuff anywhere you go to...

i agree ipod recorder not very clear, but i think it depends on the studio and a bit of muffling.. i think if you experiment a little, you should be able to create decent demos.. not album quality of course, you have to go to a recording studio for that..

My band has been recording our jam sessions using a video camera ever since our MD Player died. The sound is surprisingly decent. It may not be as clear as a MD recording, but it's decent enough for our own reference.

If you want the vocals to sound louder, try putting your recording device somewhere closer to the PA speakers. Since it's a live recording, how your recording sounds has a lot to do with the band's overall sound balance as well.

sidmontu

interesting! never knew ipod could be used as a recording device...

does it sound as good as the good old cassette tape recorders?

if only they have cassette tape recorders that record in digital formats.. i wld be happy with that
