Tangereens

Not too sure exactly how many drummers here surf other drum forums like Cymbalholic and so on, so since I found this pretty interesting I thought I'd share it.

Tangereens

Very funky accessories, me thinks.

Short review by Brooke Sofferman; Skangadang from Cymbalholic

Cymbalholic Forums

Paul sent me some Tangereens to check out and to get my feedback. I really dig them, and find them very natural to use. They bode well for my playing style, and I find them to be much more then something I'd use only once in a while. They lend themselves to organic drumming, and even though they weren't meant for cymbal use, I found them to work well on all surfaces. I even found myself playing them on my legs and knees. I might also do a full demo in my shed, but I thought everyone would like to see what they sound like in a band context.

So far, I'm having a blast with them, and I dig all of the various combos you can use..........1 stick, 1 tang........2 tangs.............one mallet one tang, etc. Plus, if you flip them around, you get more drum definition and less shaker or bells, if you want a different sound.

Congrats Paul, and thanks for the cool tools!!!! Here's a demo of the bell version on a sort of songo groove, and one with a bembe groove into my solo on "Out of Nowhere." Man, the quality just went to sh*t on these. You can't even make out the faces! I might try to do a less compressed upload. Oh well, take a listen!

Personally, I find them very useful if you want to add colour to your drumming. Would work great in a small and light gig setting, possibly slow jazz or somewhere along that line. Very affordable as well. Lightweight and can be easily fit into any stickbag.

Very nice videos, the first being a demo by Ari Hoenig (Those who know who he is, he's
a magnificent drummer!), the second and third show the Tangereens in a band setting, a recent gig by Brooke. Enjoy!

Ps: I've emailed them to inquire if they do shipping to Singapore. I'll be getting one of each if shipping's reasonable. Do drop me a pm if you're interested.

Best,
Jasper

hahaha.........wow...just like the national day parade goodies!!!!
hmm...who knows....we might be getting tht for ndp this yr...
hahaha!!!

Marc: No official dealer in Singapore just yet, I want to see if there's an interest first. If there is, I might consider. Already trading emails with Paul Lacotta to strike up a possible deal. Either that, or I'll bring in about 10 or so and pass them to the prominent drummers in Singapore, like maybe Tama Goh, our very own alvinthedrummer and Beboptang as well as Nigel and let them review it. Then if they're interested enough, they could work with the respective local music shops to bring these in in bulk. Ideas are cheap though.

smildrumez: Hahah wicked, man.

Weckl-x: Oh wise one, would you, by any chance, know how I would be able to find the factory that's manufacturing these?

Hey Nazrey, they are sold individually. So you can get one with the shaker and one with the jingles, if you wish.

I'm still waiting for interested parties before submitting my order. If you're interested, please do drop me a PM.

Many thanks and have a splendid week ahead.

Yeah, so far I haven't seen such a product in the market yet.

By the way, the guy who introduced the Tangereens to me is on this month's issue of Modern Drummer. Not on the cover, but his new album is featured and there's a pretty darn good review of it.

Do be sure to get your copy! :D

Hey Jasper,

I would be very glad to try it and review it. Would pay for a pair of each myself, so you don't put yourself out. But if the Tangereens people are willing to send out trial pairs FOC, even better! ;)

Peace,
Beboptang

Beboptang: They actually come individually, not in pairs, as I've said before. So you still want to get a pair of each?

Also, I'm currently trading emails with Paul to negotiate a better price on them Tangereens. The FOC trial pairs is an idea, but I'm not sure if they would be willing to take it up. Will inquire and see his reaction on it.

Paul only sent Brooke the Tangereens because they are good friends and I'd say Brooke's getting the attention he so deserves now. Brooke's also a regular and a fairly influential figure on Cymbalholic so I guess it was a good idea to use him as an advertising medium. Ha. Did I mention that Brooke's an Istanbul Agop endorsee? Woooo!

Ok... Think I'll go with ONE bell & ONE shaker each. Getting a pair of each is a bit expensive, and I think I'd prolly work with just 1 in my right hand.

Oh no...! My already-pregnanat stick bag's gonna burst at the seams!! :P LOL!

Cool re Brooke. Was talking to bassist Bong -- who just go endorsed by Yamaha -- about being endorsed. If I would ever be qualified to be endorsed, I think I'd rather not be endorsed by drum & cymbal companies. And definitely not stick companies! I wanna be endorsed by CAR companies!! Yeah! Like Sting, endorsed by Jaguar!!! Jewelry also good, like Stef Sun and SK Jewelry! ;) I want Audi R8, Maserati, Aston Martin! Ok, ok will settle for Mini Cooper S! LOL!!!!!! Dream on hor?

Yup one of each would work very well IMO, I think using a pair at the same time might be overkill, especially if you use like two Jingle-fied Tangereens at any one time.

Heh well I would be more than happy to take some of the load off your shoulders! In need of new mallets now. Ha! hint hint ;)

LOL yessss dream on Beboptang! I want those cars as well la, especially the Aston Martin! Or a Bugatti! Ugh. Oh ya my uncle's band jams in one of the band member's factory, and apparently he's the dealer for exotic cars in Singapore! Wah greedy much? Jewelry! Hhahaha.

You mean Hong Seh? Dealer for Ferrari, Lambo's, Maserati's & Bugatti's?

Ya jewelry, I need bling to go with my champagne sparkle drumset!! ;)

I'm not sure man. All I know is they've got Aston Martins and that's all I'm after!

Hahaha yess it'd make your drumset very gangsta (elegant)!!

By the way, I've emailed Paul regarding the possibility of him sending some trial pairs of Tangereens over, awaiting his reply. Fingers crossed!

Last call for those who want to place orders for Tangereens. Will be doing up an order to Paul soon. Please PM me by Sunday if you're truly interested.

I will require a 30% deposit upon making your order.

Deposits would be fully refunded if anything goes wrong. Nothing would though, Paul's a great guy. I'll be ordering a pair for myself as well so no worries if you think this might be a scam or anything.

By the way, Beboptang, the FOC trial pairs are a no-go. Asked Paul about them and he wasn't too keen on the idea.
