i'm lookin for a snare that has a sound similar to the two tracks listed below.does anyone know what to recommend which type of wood, depth of snare and width that will be able to get tt kinda sound.how many ply of wood should the snare be and how many milimetres should the shell thickness be?does the depth of the snare also matters to get that kinda sound.i'm lookin for a snare to emulate the sound on the tracks.heres the link for the two tracks by the same artist:

u can download the tracks on the above links.i want something with tight kinda sound with little or no reasonant. i'm lookin for maple wood snares only.

please recommend which remo batter head to use to get tt kinda sound and something which will cut away reasonance.must i also change the reasonant head?what thickness of the shell in milimetres for the snares should be?how many ply maple for each snare.this are afew models which i have to choose from, besides valkyrie which one is 2nd best?

PEarl Masters premium maple
gold color,MMP 1455SC 5.5 X 14"

Virgil Donati 4 ply birch + 4 ply maple,5X14

PEarl Master series Symphonic custom maple 14 X 5.5

Pearl Dennis chanmbers and eric singer snare

Tama starclassic g maple 6 X14

Tama valkyrie maple 6X14

besides the drum heads what are the other factors tt reduce the reasonance?which is a better snare tama starclassic g maple or pearl master premium maple snare which one has lesser reasonance and will be emulate the tracks listed above.whats the diffrence between starclassic g maple and valkyrie?i understand tt tama valkyrie is the best but how abt starclassic and pearl master premium maple snare?pls recommend?thanks.

How exactly do you know that the Valkyrie is the "best"?

Anyway, you should use as heavy a skin as possible if you like to have a dead sound. Damp it a little too. The Valkyrie might not be for you, though, thick shells tend to have a little bit more brightness and ring.

The symphonic can sound very dry if you want a dry sound. But it *is* pretty different. Also, you can emulate this sound by replacing your regular snare wires with gut or cable on other snare drums.

Now that aside...... can you afford these drums? More than that, do you know where to get them from? Sweelee is out of stock of Valkyries (I think I got the last one =P), I don't recall seeing the dennis chambers there for a while, they don't have the G Maple, and I don't know if you'll find the masters premium you want. They do have the symphonic in stock, and they just brought in extra wires for it in case you might need them. So this probably indicates you'll be ordering online?

yea i can afford them if not i wont even bother choosing them....i will probably have to source online.....i've got the prices yea,as for g maple and valkyrie, wats the difference? which one is better for the sound i'm after...have u tried g maple, its 13 ply maple,10mm thick shell.......ironically thicker shell have lesser reasonance compared to thinner ones which reasonate more, tts y most drummer who want a tighter and heavier sound go for thicker shell for lesser reasonance.i guess u could put two 10 ply maple drum and they still could sound different, has anyone tried gretsch new classic snares?
