Swing guitars

I think I am one of the first few who recently bought the new shipmemt of Smash guitars by Swing.. I bought the one with the Ash body.
I am actually a Les Paul player but recently joined a band playing songs which require single coil tones which is more bell-like. Due to current recession in Singapore I refrained myself from spending too much on a guitar. Last week I bumped into a guitar shop in Woodlands during lunch. At first, I was quite doubtful over these Swing guitars. I tried two other guitars before I plug the Smash guitar into the amp. I kept playing for about 30 minutes. The longer I played the more I discovered the beauty of this guitar.
When I test a guitar I will do the followings before taking it home:
1) I must feel comfortable holding the guitar especially the shape of the neck.
2) The workmanship of the guitar has to meet my minimum expectations.
3) Then, I'll plug it into an amplifier. I will listen to the clean sound first on all the 3 pickups and check for unbalance tone of the guitar. Some guitars have very weak tone on the high E and B strings. Some guitars sound loose. When you hit a C chord the sound has to be tight and clear.
4) Then, I play the guitar using the other channel( distortion). The one which I tested was a HSS. I will listen to the overtones and the smoothness of the distorted sound. If the action is too low you won't get a smooth tone like Carlos, Gary Moore or Slash.
Conclusion: I took the guitar home without feeling a pinch in my pocket. This guitar meets all my criterias. For a guitar which cost less than $300( inclusive of a gig bag, strap and cable)is really a good deal.I have tried others around this price range but they are no where near to this one.
When I went home I plugged it into my Carvin tube amp and I tell you what,
my ears simply could'nt believe the tone. I played a few riffs over the phone to my band mates and they could'nt believe that I was a using guitar which cost less than 300bucks.
One thing I like Standard Value is that all their guitars on the racks are properly set up for testing. I hate stepping into a shop with guitar out-of-tune, very high actions and the worst thing is that the strings are rusty.
Try Smash guitars before you make a decision. This is not an advertisement I am just sharing because when I was young I have to learn the hard way to pick a good guitar.

Indeed, Mike brings in a lot of cool, underrated yet affordable stuff. If it weren't for him, great stuff like the Beta Aivin HM-200, Swing guitars, Smash by Swing guitars, etc wouldn't be available to us locally. And I absolutely love the service, the well maintained guitars, and the wide range of stuff you can't get anywhere else.

I'm heading down soon to test one of the Acepro acoustics, as well as get my pedal's footswitch fixed. Can't wait!

swing guitars are generally well made & possess good default tone. They don't swing in people's way (forgive the pun) because of the brand name, people feel more glorified with popular labels.

You'd be surprised with what SMASH (swing's subsidiary brand name) has to offer :-)

Swing Guitars

I am a guitar instructor by day and a musician by night. I have been using a Gibson Les Paul for the last three years. Recently, one of my students walked into the studio holding a Swing Classic -X electric guitar. I played for 15 minutes and was totally blown off with the tone. It was not very far away from my Les Paul in terms of tone and quality. Later I was even more surprised with it's price, which is one fifth of my Les Paul. I am very sure if I changed the pickups it will match my Gibby.
Standard Value is selling Swing guitar which are from Korea. I have tried many Les Paul copies from Korea and China and none impresses me.
Therefore, those of you who wants a Les Paul's thick and warm tone should consider trying the Swing Classic-X before buying. I am very sure you'll be as amazed as me.
This article is not for those who wants to buy a guitar for its name. Use your eyes not your mind.
By the way, I play blues and rock.

Swing Guitars

Sorry, I meant "use your ears not your mind". Many people are very bias when come to selecting a guitar. They always look for branded stuff like Ibanez and Epiphone, I mean for budget guitars.
Swing guitars are reasonable in pricing but with big tone.

Indeed. Mike's really been one of the trailblazers in this industry, bringing in great, affordable products and mating it with excellent service. I still remember the day when i first walked into his shop, back in 2006. It wasn't fancy, didn't have much stuff, just like kind of a poor man's guitar shop. Now, he's expanded so much, i really love going into SV nowadays, not just because of the service but also because Mike's always willing to talk and share about gear. +1 to the Swing guitars.

my SMASH guitar will always be a reminder of what quality & tonal appeal do to personal embrace. the SMASH in the pic above is the cheapest guitar i own but it's a preference on days when everything else fails.

I actually contemplated selling my Ibanez to buy that Smash you have there, Subversion. They're that tempting. My only dislike is the gloss finished headstock, I prefer the satin finish on traditional strats, but that's a very minor personal preference. Probably going to buy one of those in the future, though.

i guess i am one who prioritize playability & tone above all else. this guitar is simply magical. i walked into SV to buy a Swing but ended up buying this one not that it saves me much money but this guitar gives me what i want- all the time. Mike gave me a free set-up for it too. thumbs up!
