Sweet, Clean pups

hey guys, i was just wondering...
since we've already had a number of threads on the pups which do best with high gain and all that.... it thought i'd just ask:
which pups do the best for a sweet sounding clean tone? perhaps something mellow sounding with nice mids and smooth highs?

Don't know much on this.... Only know that that...

Pickups meant for distortion are not meant for cleans.
And vice versa.

which brand is lace sensors by?
and where can i check them out?
and how much would they cost?
sorry for the large number of questions this amateur has to pose... lol

i'd recomand fender stock pickups, be it vintage, noisless, staggered, they all have the 'fender' signature clean...

Not sure about sweet pickups, You're amongst the few people I know who taste their pickups before buying.

are single coils or humbuckers more suited for clean?
and what about Seymour Duncan pickups? or EMG's? lol, EMG's for clean...

I personally feel that single coils produce the best cleans.

EMGs for cleans, the SA pickups are very good imo. It ain't sterile man. But if you're talking about the 81, 85, then you have a slightly bigger problem getting a subtle nice clean tone.

Fender stocks are good. Hmm can try the vintage strat model. By SD if im not wrong. My rythm guit has it, pwns ass when it comes to clean =)

good single coils will give you a clear glassy sound, a good humbucker will give you a nice round clean sound. you can get great cleans from both, but you want to keep in mind that humbuckers usually are higher output than single coils. if you want a nice clean from a humbucker, look for a lower output humbucker, such as a PAF Pro or PAF Classic, rather than the high output humbuckers like Tonezones or Invaders.

high output and overwound humbuckers tend to give your guitar a dirty sounding clean because the high output overloads your signal.

you can still get great distortion on lower-output pickups if you have an amp with good distortion, or if you have a good distortion pedal.

Man, i disgress... I've got a friend with a MIJ strat with EMG SA pups, 3 of them. And they sound so.. dry compared to the MIA Jeff Beck strat with lace sensors.

I mean, not that I am a fan of strats... but the EMGs rocked with distortion but pales when it comes to the clean twang.

But thats what my ears tell me lah... ;)

Really?

It's the set up i guess. As with all settings, done correctly = good sound, done wrong = bad sound :D

True true... its just went into a GT2 and to a hi if set. The jeff beck went thru the same thing...

But you know, if it works for Steve Lukather, it could work for you. ;) Let your ears decide. It just ain't got the twang IMO... but great for rock!

i prefer going clean on single coils also, esp tele's. i also have this frankenstein strat, with '80s fender single coils, and imho, it sounds much better clean than with even mild distortion ^^

U can try out Seymour Duncan's Alnico Pro II or The vintage Staggered. I'm selling that also. Hehe. It gives a very very sweet beautiful tone. very sweet and vintage. Great for both cleans and distortion too. Pm me if ure interested.

The emg sa i had were really clean and noiseless... But it just lack the character of a typical strat. No quack or twang...

If the emg sounds bad, it mite be the batteries

Im one of those who like the hum for some reason...
