wau lau? wat is tis?
it's like family business

when I ask for the price of a Roland sound module,
one salesperson at the counter quote me a price;
after which a guy whom I asked ealier but disappeared
and then appear again quote me a price $500 more???
and the worst of all is the guy quote me the price in front
of the counter salesperson.

wat is tis? con show in the music retail business ???

Yeah.. that happens... I get alot of that shit in Swee Lee especially. I guess the salesman gets some commission of the stuff he sells, its obvious the second guy's trying to ripped you off to get off with more commission. Ask that guy why the price is such a rip off. If he tries to give you some bullshit. I've been there to get some Fender pickups, but they don't have em in stock. That ain't the problem coz i know the market here in S'pore is small and so they don't stock up some pickups. But GUESS WHAT? they said if i wanted to get the Fender Pickups i wanted, I had to pay SHIPPING FOR IT. WAD THE HELL... i mean, isn't that the same as ordering from an overseas shop or Ebay? To make it simple, Local distributors like Swee Lee is non-existent. I'm kinda appalled at their service and attitude. Sorry Pro-SweeLee activists out there.

pro swee lee? haha. i think everyone is against swee lee but we have to go there bcos they import most of the big brands which u wont be able to find anywhere else.

bongman - I have one word for you.

Clarify.

No use coming on here and ranting about how unreasonable the people are etcetc without asking WHY.

Ranting n Raving

Ranting n Raving

There's no need to ask WHY because the reason is simple - $commission$
I didn't want to bring up a commotion and embarrass anyone. The guy just
thought I'm a stupid newcomer with zero knowlegde.

The item is not on the 7th flr warehouse sale, I can just go back another day to the counter salesperson and get the better price given to me.

Anyway, Bras Basah branch is also giving a similar price. I asked for the price is because I thought the 2nd flr is having a sale, which is not after I found out about 7th flr. The warehouse sale is on 7th flr, not 2nd flr.

It's been a long time since I've been to Sims Ave SWEE LEE; Roland is the
reason to go there but what a big surprise, the service is unprofessional and
just like a family business - suga suga, bo chap???

So maybe it's just a problem of miscommunication.

Why go on about other stuff about them if that's the case? It's not really fair to them.

...Not that I'm prosweelee or anything.

well personally i think tht the salesperson at sims ave suckz like hell.. but if u are toking bout bras brasah.. its a diff story.. becuz pple there goves a good service unlike the one at sims ave.. but yea they are out for commision but the best is to noe someone wrking at swee lee and be their fren.. for me.. i always look for jumat... and i can feeel safe.. he earns and i am happy with my purchase... so yea.. its kinda subjective man..

WAT ???

what do you mean not fair ??? and what do you mean miscommunication?
there isn't any communication, it's obvious, there's a double standard.
the guy just want a $500 more in commission. with $500, I can buy a good
acoustic guitar.

I bought one module recently from music plaza and the price quote to me from two different staff is the same, so I felt they are professional on quoting prices.

fair or not fair, it boils down to the fact that the staff there are not trained
to be professional. how can under the same day and same roof, two different prices from two salesperson?

luckily this happens, next time better be careful about price.

fored..he is not ranting or raving about nothing at all..it happened to my friends it happened to me...i enquired the price of the PGM300 in bras basah..since the tag said 2.9k i figured can ask to slash to about 2.3 or 2.4..the chinese mustachioed guy told me 2.4k+ and another day some other guy said 2360...like wth? so best is deal with someone u know..like jumat..eventually the piece was taken..so i bought my PGM300 at Guitar Gallery..i had asked the boss directly before...he slashed to 2.3k after i bargained..guess what? on the day i actually bought it some malay helper at the store quoted me 2.5k+...so i told him i 'll talk to his boss..so i settled on it for 2.3k in the end...see? everyone at sweelee is just a promoter..so unscrupulous or greedy ones will just 'eat' those they think can cheat...must beware..

swee lee - a traditional Chinese business

swee lee - a traditional Chinese business ???

so unprofessional of Swee Lee to do that !?
it may happen in Malaysia, Hong Kong and of course sure in China !?
but this is Singapore, we hv grown out of the third world to be a First world country, this shouldn't be happening !!!

Music Plaza doesn't practice this, maybe customer service a bit problem.
City music is the best - good customer service and best price for the mass.
Sinamex catching up with their line of music products, good service as well.

WHAT IS SWEE LEE doing ??? Just because they hold Fender, Gibson and Roland means they can f**k around with customers ???

Guitar Gallery will open another branch if Swee Lee continues like this;
Citymusic business will blossom and so will Sinamex.
Music plaza hopefully can improve their service.

Swee Lee SUCK big time !!! ??? Traditional Chinese family business ???

hmm have heard alot of talk abt sweelee ....am not sure cos i am new to singapore....but i didnt know u cld bargain!!!....well but i have had an unpleasant sorta experience....i bought a whole set of stompboxes there quite cheap and asked them if i cld get power supply and they sold me powers uplly with ibanez split coil to power all pedals but the pin type was different...so i asked how do i change pin type and they said go any electronics shop u will get....but i went so many shops even in simlim....PSA to pin type just not available...i have had a set of stompboxes for 3 months now and cannot play cos batteries are too expensive...and no power supply...can anyone help me out....also...so much bad talk abt sweelee...i got an ibanez rg1550 prestige there for 930$...i thought it was a good deal...am i wrong.??

too bad ... ...

too bad ... ...
no wonder they need to run another shop using another name,
because Swee Lee's name is a goner, down the spiral.

sell using another shop name lo... but if they bring the Swee Lee
culture to Guitar Gallery, then too bad, another will bites the dust!!!

IMO, the only things to get at Swee Lee is probably the pickups and certain effects and maybe soon Mesa Boogie. If I want Gibson and Fender, I have my friends who can get it for me cheaper and they stand by their products.

I have received VERY bad service from Swee Lee both at Bras Basah and Sims Drive, I try not to go there unless absolutely necessary.

i'm glad i did not buy their epi les pauls, it was in so bad condition anyway. I think the smaller shops are the ones to go for. Theres one shop in bras brasah, same level as swee lee, its called guitar workshop,a the new one.the service over is like whoa. That dude over there is so friendly. He allows you to try out everything, taught me some cool stuff,we even played a couple of songs together, even though he know wasnt gonna buy anything. And i went in for a whole solid 2 hours(partly because of the rain).

guitar gallery belongs to sweelee yes... so is all music. some things are so obvious, yet the staff still deny it. if u look at the dimarzio pickups they are selling, all bears the sweelee import prints.

swee lee - buay swee leh... ...

halo ALL,
why not start a thread talking about your bad experience at Swee Lee
in the Kopi-tiam thread. See if this can make any impact!
