This week, 38 acts from all over Asia travel to Singapore to perform at the NUS Cultural Centre over three days. Each showcase will be recorded and cut into a TV series that will be shown in America, the UK, Australia and parts of Asia next year. Conceived by Colleen Zulian, former music publisher and now head of Asian Sounds, a music publishing, tv production, etc. company with offices in LA, Melbourne and New York, the Sutasi project seeks to give Asian music the worldwide attention it has long deserved. It is a massive project involving a talent search across the continent that lasted more than 6 months, and the tv showcase boasts an international crew that includes the likes of a Grammy awards show producer, sound and tv crew flown in from the US, lighting directors who have toured with the biggest bands and many others.

Despite Sutasi being a contest (out of the shortlisted acts, several will make it to the grand finals to be held in Los Angeles next year), there's hardly a competitive feel about the project. Rather it's been a coming together of sorts, of bands from around the region, all looking forward to showcase their music to an international audience.

The live filming will take place on Friday, 3 October, Sunday, 5 October and Tuesday, 7 October from 1-9 pm at the NUS Cultural Centre. Each day sees about 12 acts from different countries and 'categories' (solo artists, bands, songwriters), playing four songs each. It's a great chance to check out relatively unknown but very talented acts from our neighbouring countries, and with different genres of music on offer too. Admission is free, with tickets available on the respective days from the NUSCC box office.

The Great Spy Experiment are Singapore's representatives, and we are scheduled to perform this Friday, 3 October from 6 pm. Hope to see you there.

There are 13 bands from India too :)

Out of them, I'd really recommend "Indigo Children", a 4-piece rock n roll outfit formerly known as "The Superfuzz". Having been in Singapore for a while now, I can safely guess that their sound would really work for the audience here !

Oh, and they'll be playing tomorrow, in case anyone is interested.
