12 bucks short

What does the 'Mmm' about the 12 bucks mean? 'wow outstanding value'? or 'cheat money'? i am not complaining or nit picking. and if you think 'cheat money' i will respect that too - especially when there's so many great free shows you can see on a weekend these days. I am just curious to know. promise.

I am not the organiser of this show (i just noticed it wasn't publicised here so i plonked it in) i *do* know the show is not being put on organised by the Substation. instead: whoever is putting on the show is renting the substation as the venue - an extra cost some SG shows don't have - and they'll be renting the P.A and gear too... so no idea if the bands will get a cent (the costs for a trip down from Malaysia soon mount up - even though it's not that far to go). wow and divided between that many quality bands too...

But, having said that, please please please do NOT mistake me for someone pleading for people to 'support' bands. i *despise* that attitude when it is used as an excuse to emotionally blackmail people to come to a show - usually in Singapore.
i hope an audience who have come to see a band to actually enjoy a show rather than just feel morally-bound to attend even though they're indifferent about the music.

( 'support' is for charities and the like. music isn't a charity. nobody asked these people to become musicians. i do know that it doesn't always follow that if a band is good it means that people will come to them - if that was true then Force Vomit would be full-time musicians with their own TV show - and lots of great music has been missed out on because nobody knew about it or could be arsed or just didn't get it ... but it's also fair to wonder what do most bands ever did to earn people's 'support'? )

falling over myself now just to pre-empt in case anyone gets me wrong because i am asking about that 'hmm'. i repeat i not trying to defend the pricing. i could defend it i guess - like i know it's less than half the price great spy's recent esplanade show was... and with a lot more music for your dollar... (Pinholes and Force Vomit and the mighty DRVN all in one place alone is good enough for me)...

... BUT -for all i know- maybe it is a rip-off to charge to see bands (hopefully) enjoying themselves playing their music (if they're not enjoying themselves, maybe they should do something else). not sure.

once again: not nit picking. i just find this interesting and have been consistently surprised by a minority of Singaporean bands who whine about lack of support and such. generally though, they don't last long (but always get replaced by some other whiney camp). it's the happy fools who are suckers for their love of music that soldier on and generally cut the crap.

if you go: enjoy the show. if you want to and can't afford it - let us know!
not sure what the guest list is.

PS: guessing by your sig you support BSP?

Woots~

.woah.
.i get your point dude.
.dont get me wrong, but the 'hmm...' in my previous comment is in regards with the pricing and also the venue itself.
.not to say that im a cheapskate or something, but if you remembered, last week at the esplanade, OAG ( a rival band of The Times, and considered as the pioneers of the indie malaysian movement), played for free and adding to that it was a super dope venue.
.what im trying to say here is that, im still considering whether or not i should go for this particular gig.
.it would be lovely to see this gig played outside at a bigger venue, say maybe the esplanade!?.
.anyways, im not complaining about the pricing or anything, i feel its good value for money since we're seeing other dope bands especially Bittersweet and Force Vomit.
. and yeah, British Sea Power beats Arcade Fire for sure.

Force Vomit, Pinholes, The Times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Baik uh!!! F**K OAG, Singapore hater!!! FYI, OAG said that Singaporean eat rubbish, and they got ban for that!!! They did say sorry when they perform at the Esplanade, but still but the way he talks, its not sincere...

Dude!?
Why so emotional!?
We all know Radhi is just a typical laser-mouthed guy, and i somehow agreed that APM just misunderstood him. I spoke to Radhi right after their first set at the Esplanade, and hes as genuine as any typical malay guy can be.
C'mon people, that was just a misunderstanding and its time we all cut the crap and start getting back to our senses.
Sheesh.

:)

you're so typical.. from the way i see it, he's honest in the way he delivers, and he don't care about what others say when he says that "singa makan sampah, itu pasal sSG bersih" or the merlion eats rubbish, that's the reason SG is clean".. to me, that's honest..

radhi say ' THATS ENTERTAINMENT' hehe.! he rocks lah. Why are we all so sensitive? haha. chill. Singa makan sampah. shudnt the lions be angry? ROAR! haha.

viva auto garbage men - old and young

No worries Mudzdecruz - my post might be something that Pinholes put down to my not getting my coffee. As a fan of Force Vomit and Bittersweet - evidently you know the score already, added to which I think many would agree that "it would be lovely to see this gig played outside at a bigger venue, say maybe the esplanade!?". Then there would be better ventilation; access to food and drink and the bands would get paid (and a free gig would mean musicians wouldn't be bugged by fluttery-eyed girls to be on the non-existent guestlist).

The OAG show was booked by Aidil from Malaysian top popsters, Couple - so good for him to be able to swing that.

It's a mixed blessing all these shows, for eg booked by Heineken, or free stuff at Esplanade. It means more gigs hoorah. But last night's gig organiser was saying how it also makes things harder for small-time operators who put on shows with bands that aren't necessarily Heineken-sound-council approved or passed some sort of Esplanade audition. I guess it depends what sort of music you like. I doubt the bands I like would ever pass a talent show.

erm yeah.

just a suggestion.

it seems like its always a malaysian-singaporean affair lately. what about our fellow indonesian indie bands?

with the likes of The Upstairs,White Shoes and The Couples Company,Goodnight Electric,The Brandals,Sajama Cut and the lists goes on..how can we not invite them rite?! haha
