suggestions for a 5-string value bass

alritey! here goes. i need a 5 string value bass, by value i mean a bass with everything that's good, but not too much at a high price.

an EB MM would not be valuable (to me? haha), neither would a Yamaha TRB or a Fender P/Jbass. something more like an Ibanez RD would be what im looking for. something that can give me ENOUGH sound to be called good tone, not something that will exceed me. i dont think my playing level is anything worth a pedulla price range bass =X

budget? ~1k.

or should i simply mod my Ibanez GSR with basslines and an aguilar. :D

subversion higly recommends the ibanez RD500 as well , try sweelee and ask them for the 505 :p u can checkout the RD500 review in the bass section.

i've even TRIED the RD 500... it rocks!! but the bras basah guy (i dotn kno the bras basah outlet people) said, "oh we dont have 505 on the list so there's no such thing as 505." goodness me i felt like slapping him.
aljunied people are a lot nicer tho. knowing people goes a long way.

BTB 405QM!!! its sweet. why? cuz i have the BTB 406QM =X maybe i'll jus take out the 1st string and play it 5. heh heh heh :D both sound the same tho. and somehow i dont favour the 35" scale. 34" please 8)

RD 505 sounds good. i need to stop being lazy and make that trip down to alj to find out the price. thx

rockbasses!

go to swee lee and check them out. 5 strings at $900 w/o discount. better than any other ibanez tone man. 8)

swee lee aljunied doesn't have the 505, i went down to see during the sale, they said that they don't bring in the 505's. --"

josh did u ask someone u know? usually they would... unless they did a total change of staff that we now know none of them, and a revamp of policies... bleah...

ROCKBASS - heh heh i dont have the $ to maintain a warwick neck mann... i've tried a few, the fretless was even oh-so tempting to bring home... but... dunno le... im not much in favour of the Rockbass.. :X

yes, i'm picky. aren't you?

I'm not, I just want em all...

Maybe I'll stop when i buy a Jazz bass or something.

rockbasses aren't made of exotic woods like warwick. necks are made of regular maple and rosewood. mine hasnt warped at all since last yr. and i've been bringing it up and down to church every week. been bumped here and there by inconsiderate ppl on the bus.. hey! still fine!

Well being a bassist isn't easy to select a bass guitar of your liking. It's all depends on the genre of songs that you're going to play. As for me i've been playing bass for almost more than 14 years but i still prefer the Aria pro, Yamaha and Ibanez bass guitar due to the unique sound of treble and bass.

So to select your own bass brand doesn't actually counts but the technique of slapping, scalling and handling a bass guitar is furthermore important coz they are actually robust and durable compare to a normal guitar.

Cheers,
Caesar.

IMO the Ibanez RD is an overlooked gem, to bad if there's non here

this OLP MM3 is also a good player:

heyy thanks for all the input..

i think the OLP MM is one of the best medium budget basses, but its just not my tone... =(

i love the ibanez tone, from the RDs to the SRs and the BTBs... for some reason, ibanez just doesnt focus much on their basses (even tho, it seems that their basses are pretty much good for the money)

and it stinks that ONLY the ibanez RD 500 is in stock. time to get a ticket and fly to japan/korea!

Zero_G: Hey i'd like to know more about that warwick-rockbass of yours... maybe because of the non-exotic wood and slightly thicker neck *(unreliable info, but who knows?) its more durable than the Warwick basses for singapore's weather :D

yea. necks are thicker. not sure abt real warwicks though. wish i had the $$ to get my hands on them in the first place. heh.

havent really had it for a very longtime la.. but long enuff... tone is really good. puncy and juicy. heh. got a fren who's sticking to his rockbass when he can jolly well afford a good warwick himself.

go try it out as swee lee la. amaze youself. heh.

tried it, but just a while. didnt like the feel at first. well, some things need adjusting too! like if u have never played the 6 string, it'd be hard for a while, but u'll pick up the pace in half an hour sitting there fumbling around...

mm wat's your rockbass and how much did u get it for? :D a friend told me their pickups arent worthy and a mod of those would be useful...

got the streamer 4 string... really good slap tone that one. i hope it's still hanging up there in that corner. would love to get an active on instead but.. haha no $$ la...

got it for ard $600 in last yr's swee lee's EOY sale at the sims drive branch. abt pickups... yea... my output is kinda low... but pickup replacement won't be that soon la.. still sounds really good. afraid to lose that growl. and after all, real warwicks use MEC pickups too.

heys fellow rock basser ! i just got a fortress 4 string it sure feels good man ! haha. hey how do you normally maintain your warwick ?

warwick neck thru adjust very ex.LAst time pple said spore weather not suitable for warwick. Btw old warwick are handcraft and worth more $$$. rockbass is nice and gd sound althou made in china..mec pickup ok lah althou bartolini sound more attractive.
$1k cant buy 5string warwick bass. Maybe 4 string streamer with 1 pickup.
TRB5PII is nice slap and funky tone but more than 2k.
I tried a ibanez bass during swee lee sale at sims drive. original $1.6k but sold at $1.1k that time. Was having fun slapping it. Forgot the model but looks a bit like pedulla pattern. Variax bass no 5 string yet.

cheers
