you might wanna use thicker strings. i might help. if i'm not wrong hammet uses eb 10-52 strings

String gauge won't help if speed is the problem. Like middleman said, you have to start slow and build up. Practice is key. Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield played for a long time to become what they are today.

yeah, their tempo is too fast for me. playing all down strokes is crazy!

hmm,try practicing MOP alt picking first,then down pick when you can play it perfectly when alt picking.thats what i did,but dont over do it till you get cramps.hope this helps
