String defect

Hello everyone

This is my second set of ernie ball strings ive restrung myself recently, but there is this black thing/dot on my high E string at my 19th fret. If i were to play fret 17 to 21 on the high E, it would be dead/muted. The rest of the frets also doesnt ring out as much as it would be normally.

Im wondering if this is a string defect? Im relatively new into guitar playing, only 4 months since i started, but this is the first time i encountered such a problem. Im wondering if anyone else might have experienced something similar. So I guess i have to replace the individual high E string i guess.

UPDATED:

Nothing wrong with the string, i just accidentally lowered the saddle on the high E string end while cleaning. Raising it back up solved the problem.

Thank you for your time

good to know :-) any muting/ choking-related issues are most likely set-up matters. also, you aren't the only one who bought a fresh set of EBs only to discover some not-so-fresh strings in there.

Yup, it's quite common to find small rust spots on new packs of strings (anyone ever tried "blue steels"? Omg, horrible!)

However, I've been using daddario for years now and have yet to encounter ANY problems at all. No rust spots etc. Except for the one time the string snapped at the ball end. Other than that, I highly recommend them. Cheaper also
