^yes,it all depends on what kind of music you play.Strats are rather versatile and is my choice.And of course,if you want to play types of music like metal/rock,other brands would suit you better...your best bet for metal would be ibanez,Fender is more likely for soft soothing kind of sound,but of course,metal still can be played on a fender...but ibanez is MADE fer metal...well most of their guitars...
In my opinion,i don't like squier one bit...its just something bout it that makes me think this way.I would rather go for the strat.But if its your first time playing guitar,you should go fer a acoustic guitar first...but of cos,a electric won't harm you...i just find acoustic guitar much more fun.Trust me,i used to say that i wanted to play electric badly and that i was bored with my acoustic,but when i finally got my electric,i was bored with it in a weeks time..and went back to my acoustic...but of course i still play with it..*duh*
