I watched this video and oh boy! I'm really gasing for Squier Classic 60s Vibe strat now!!

Pretty awesome sounding to me for just $630 at SV Guitars!

Any other recommendations for strat-type guitars? Have about $800 to spend. Don't really care about brand.

Had my fair share of HBs and super strats and it's time for me to get a strat!

Jap strats are pretty good for the money too. There are quite a few strats on the buy/sell now go check em out and see which specs you like the best. If possible, test them out and compare.

If you're looking for other brands other than fender you can check out fujigen, g&l, greco as well. They make great strats too. :)

i took my cv 50s strat over an american special fender but im a sucker for vintage-sounding underwound pickups and that tinted neck :D

Oooh yes, I'm a big fan of Fujigen and G&L. Lovely guitars they make! I've got the S-500 and the EOS-Ash; they ooze Strat-character plus more. The MFD pickups on the S-500 is super clean and noiseless, giving that trademark Strat tone effortlessly. The Fujigen is very well-made, giving a great feel and tone of a Strat plus a comfy, well-designed CFS system. Only thing I might change is the bridge pickup on the Fujigen, I'm waiting for some Bare Knuckles!

my classic vibe strat.... really happy with this cheap guitar....
the playability, construction, wood (alder)..... color... yes, color is very important for me... :D

modded:
EMG85/SA/SA (18volts)
LR baggs piezo bridge
custom pickguard....

I'm using rotosound 0.10 now... the feel and tension just like ernieball 0.09, but the sound as thick as... and as warm as 0.10.. :)

But $800 for a Fujigen or G&L Strat? Don't think can get that price new, but most probably 2nd hand.

I'm looking for something with alder body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. My favourite combination hands down.

Thought of the additional mods I would do to the CV strat if I actually get it:
1)Brass trem block from GFS, or maybe just change the whole bridge to a Wilki bridge,
2)Maybe change the nut to a Tusq nut if the stock nut is nut doing is job well, because I intend to use the trem alot.
3)If pots are shitty then probably upgrade then to Alpha pots.

I have yet to try the guitar, but like the overall vibe of it(no pun intended)

Still trying to get rid of that tiny bit of brand consciousness that is knocking at the back of my head...

Saw this guitar on orangeguitars.com: http://www.orangeguitar.com/forsale/grecoforsale/gre_st_70s3tsb/01.htm
What do you guys think?

How much is the piezo bridge? Seems pretty interesting.. If the price is right don't mind getting one.

You have to consider the amp he is using as part of the tonal equation.

That's true, but wish he was using more of a blackface-type amp. The Blackstar sounded a little too harsh to me.

But I did manage to find a demo of Jack Thammarat using a Fender Duo Sonic and and using the BB Preamp for lead tones and it sounded superb to me.

The amp I will be using is a VHT Special 6 Head+cab. On the normal channel, it sounds like your typical blackface-ish amp, but on the boost channel, it sounds more like a tweed amp.

When woodworkz has a sale the fgn strats will fall in your price range, maybe a couple of g&l's too.

I see but I need the guitar by June because I'm going to be using it in my IB Music exam in september and need to practice my pieces on it, so can't really afford to wait.

Oh i see. Then start hunting the classifieds for a cheap american or jap strat or go down and try the squires at SV haha.

That's another option as well I guess. But not many cheap ones now. Some guy tried to con me into buying a Fender american standard strat for 800 bucks. Upon inspection, many alarm bells rang off because the decal was diff, 6 point bridge, 2 normal string trees, cheap looking knobs, back of the guitar where the backplate covers was not painted, really tiny a** pots.

That's why I'm a bit wary of buying 2nd hand now...

Wow, that guy is really one kind. Gotta be careful when buying 2nd hand or buy from reputable sellers.. I've seen faizal rocks selling a couple of strat at a good price.

He reposted in as a Fender Blackie Replica in the Classified ads section. The body seemed like it was made out of ply wood to me.

But faizal_rocks' guitars are parts-casters right?
