this isnt a trick question,its a genuine incident that happened to me quite awhile ago and i just remembered it and i'm equally baffled as i was then.

this happened quite a few years ago,in the time of the ICQ era.
had one too many drinks one night in my room and i eventually passed out on my bed with the lights on, music blasting and the windows open. i live in a row of terraced houses.

when i eventually wake up around 6am for school,the music's still going and head i to my computer to turn it off when i find a message from an "unknown online user" on my ICQ.

it reads: "will you turn down the fcking music i'm trying to sleep here" (cant remember the exact wording but thats the gist of it)

i was pretty stunned but damn blur and late for school already so i switched my monitor off,got changed and left the house. by the time i got home, my computer had crashed and i had no chance to reply to the mysterious sender of the msg or get the ICQ number.

how on earth is something like that possible? i went over all the possible scenarios in my head. firstly, i dont know or talk to any of my immediate neighbours or the houses around me,and how would they be able to track down my ICQ anyway? i thought it might be a prank by someone,maybe even a random message but seriously,what are the chances of that happening at the exact time i left the music blasting with the windows open?

supernatural occurance perhaps? i'm aware of a non malicious spirit residing in my house, but a PC & ICQ literate ghost?

discuss...i'm still stumped to this day.

it could well possibly be that u did add someone whom u hardly knew and forgot about him or her. some people dont keep track of their list.

nope..you didnt read carefully. i dont have any siblings in the house, and i dont know any of my neighbours.

even if it WAS a neighbour, such a stunt would involve having to know the exact IP address of my house unit, and correleating that with my ICQ account. i may be wrong,but that seems quite improbable for the average hacker or prank.
EDIT: im using a wired router,not wireless,so theres no way someone could have perhaps picked up my network signal or whatever (sorry not a very tech guy)..just a thought.


i had no personal details (name/address etc) on my icq profile.

for the other scenario, it being from someone i hardly know on my list.. it wouldnt have said "unknown online user",and secondly, what are the chances of someone sending me a prank message coninciding with the scenario i described (windows open,music blasting)?

and hahaa no im not trying to spook anyone...i dont even find it spooky myself, just bloody puzzling.

My suggestion, you should update your virus patterns and scan your PC, update your browser (especially if you are using IE), get a firewall with the 'In and Out activites' feature available to monitor whats going on behind that 'curtain' PC of yours.

Somehow, I guess, someone must have plant some toyol/remote bot to take control of your PC and was be able to see what program your PC are on during that time.

The only computer Ghost I have ever seen is that Norton Ghost (cloning) softy...

Anyway, ff it is true your PC have been hijack, I guess that some sick bastards must OWN you... 8)

lol, no lah, drinking makes u feel very tired/muscles relax, n for some ppl, blurred vision, but it wont make u as crazy or out of your mind as TV portrays it. For me im still very aware of wats going on, even if im feeling the physical effects of alcohol. haha...

anyway, unsane, you said theres a roaming spirit in your house?! 8O care to elaborate?

erm..actually theres tons of software out there for ppl to hack ICQ numbers...so maybe ur neighbour jus hacked into ur system and leave u a msg...

ah well its the little things like this that makes life interesting...

there's a spirit of a little boy in my room/house,he's made it a point to follow me for certain reasons...my own little idol hahaa. this was confirmed by 3(!) different spiritually-inclined people who don't know each other.
i just didnt know he was PC literate :wink:

erm...if u u store the ICQ number into ur com to make it remember for u...den its pretty easy for ppl to hack ur cookies from ur com to obtain ur ICQ number

erm...if u u store the ICQ number into ur com to make it remember for u...den its pretty easy for ppl to hack ur cookies from ur com to obtain ur ICQ number

then again to obtain the cookies the person must either: 1) be someone living in your house,has access to your comp or used your comp. then after this, he has to search each cookie for your ICQ number. but would he search all those cookies just to send a prank msg? or scenario 2) you accepted an infected file with a trojan, had a backdoor opened in one of the ports and the guy would have to search all the cookies as above. soooooooooooo.... maybe it was the ghost :?

yes trojan horse is very easy to use and easily obtainable on the net. but but but he needs to accept a file infected with a trojan first wouldn't he? and presuming he does have anti virus on, the trojan would get busted even before it can launch itself.
