So, to all the people enlisting to our beloved army this year: when?

welcome to the most miserable point in your life thus far: the day you enlist

au contraire, I totally enjoyed my army experience... my advice to the new recruits... take it all in your stride, face things with the right attitude, and you'll find yourself growing up in your two years in green. whine and skive your way through, and you will just come out bitter, lazy, and as if you were still 18/19/whatever age you were when u enlisted.

after all, this is the only time in your life you gonna get to do all these things e.g. firing a gun, throwing a grenade, living in the jungle. some people PAY to do these things :)

Living in a jungle I can do without. Haha, but yea. Just pass by the two years and try to enjoy it.

I didn't realise that NS was something that could bind all Singaporean males together until I met some old friends. The first thing we did was to ask: "WHich unit?", and all the funny stories from our units all started coming out and we laughed them off till the cows came home

haha, and to those who dont have to go through all those stuff, still have to deal with office politics. and also teaches one how to make things work under pressure. if you take things the right way will definitely learn a lot from the army experience (though it might be under greatly unpleasant situations).

also, losing gf is normal. you learn to get over it and deal with life by yourself. then you realise "hey, i can actually live my life pretty well by myself!"

just what i have learnt on my 1.5 years in army thus far.

edit: oh and also learning how to feed your addictions with the miserable pay of course. life skills, guys, life skills!

lol i was referring to the day you enlist. for me army is totally fine, discounting the fact that i am wasting my time here and i should be in university now.

when i first enlisted i was so depressed i didn't talk for 2 days. it's a total change of "scenery". however, after the 2 days, i reasoned to myself, "you've hit rock bottom, might as well make the best out of the shithole you got yourself into" and tried my best in whatever i did (at least until i got into armour tech. i ****ing hate my vocation)

Haha.I remember my enlistment day nong nong time ago. Went to the old CMPB at Bukit Merah in a cold rainy morning. Surrendered my IC that I would never see again for nong nong time. Sumpah allegiance to the country (most of us just mumbled silently). Went up to the 3 tonner with the rest, while some on-looking parents were sobbing. And they played a scratchy "patriotic" music through the PA as if we care. Went to a supply base to collect our barang-barang in ali-baba bags. Headed off to jetty for Tekong and a hell-hole called ITD (Infantry Training Depot). Made to wait for hours to get into the RPL, and it was still raining. 15 minutes ride in the RPL. Everyone was drenched, sullen, and not in the mood to talk. Finally touched down at Tekong.....and the nightmare began. :D
