Hey Hey Hey :D

After reading up plenty bout both these babies, I see that the features of each one are as follows:

Skreddy SD
-------------
Touch sensitive, Dynamic
Fuzz like sustain
Medium gain
Non-transparent
Compression??? - No idea, experts please elaborate
Pre-gain, brilliance trim pots

MI Audio Tubezone
---------------------
Touch sensitive, Dynamic
Tube like saturation and tone
Can enter High Gain!
More Transparent
Tight and compressed on high gain
More knobs :P

What are your takes on this? I have a subdecay blackstar and I am primarily looking for an OD to push the blackstar, compress it and basically tighten it up...

It seems to me that the tubezone has more variety, yet some people swear by the screwdriver.. Why is that so?

Ive read up individual reviews, and also the ones on this site done by subversion, but I would like your opinions more on a comparative basis

Cheers :D

Look at the m.i audio blues pro or blue box deluxe to push ur blackstar. The screw driver is fuzz based....and the effect from mixing might not be what u want if ur looking for a plexi/jcm800 or bogner type high gain sound.

The tube zone itself is a great high gain pedal, using it to push the blackstar is wasting its capabilities. The pedal itself, i feel is a better high gain pedal then the black star.

Yes, exactly Im trying to nail the JCM800/TSL type high gain sound..Not the plexi.

But wouldnt the bluesy OD's make the tone a bit tame??

What other options do I have apart from the MI Audio range?

You are using the blues pro or blues deluxe to boost ur blackstar. The mids of both pedals will help attain the tone and growl of the jcm800 type tone. In fact the blues pro alone on max gain can get a great medium gain jcm800. The crunch box alone does the job well.

But since u all already have a blackstar....u dun need anything high gain to boost another. Unless of course u like over compressing and noise.

Other options would be Boss sd-1 (cheap), xotic ac or bb preamp. Would not go a fuzz way for the type of sound u want.

ac booster is a good option. but i would go for the bb preamp in ur case because u can use it as a standalone dist pedal!
